Nothing Comares 2 U & 100 MPH

Can anyone tell me when The Family's unreleased version of Nothing Compares 2 U was recorded and also Mazarati's version of 100 MPH? Also, A long shot is the second unreleased version of Old Friends 4 sale when the orchestration was put on it. Any idea when this was done?

er

The Family's 'Nothing...' was actually on their one and only release, their self-titled LP released in 1985 through Paisley Park / Warner Bros. Their version is a lot different musically then Prince's later released live version and Sinead's sappy version... not bad but different. '100 MPH' was recorded in the latter part of '85 by Mazarati when Brown Mark was working with them trying to secure them a deal with Prince and Paisley Park records. Of course any band that was on the Paisley label got a song or some input from Prince (lucky buggers) but unfortunately for as good as Mazarati's version was (as well as the whole LP), the sales weren't that great for the release in general (I personally would love to hear a completed version by Prince and not the demo that we've all been subject to). The orchestrated parts on 'Old Friends...' were actually re-done for the release 'Old Friends For Sale...the Vault'. I have a boot copy of the original version done in or around '84 / 85, and I don't recollect there being any horns or orchestrated parts on that original version (we must remember though that what has snuck out from those times were mostly just demos not intended for release at that point). To fulfull contractual obligations with Warners, Prince re-did some of the parts (including the vocals) and stripped most of the Revolution out of the final product that we hear on that 'Vault' release. Any way that you look at it, it would be great to get the official original releases from Prince himself...

I love the Mazarati album!! The Family was just OK. "Screams of passion" being the highlight. I actually like the original bootleg of "Old friends" as well. The lyrics seemed so much more personal.
Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.
