I fell off with him in the 90s more as a public figure/persona than I did as an artist. In the 80s, I felt like the guy could do no wrong in or out of the studio - when the 90s rolled around, I got re-educated on that position with a lot of his foolish, excessive behavior - but my mind is always open to whatever new music he puts out, and my mind will always be open to whatever he does. Doesn't mean I'll necessarily dig on it, but I'll always be excited to give it a spin.

I agree with rdhull. Why give people an out? Let them explain their reasoning. It seems to me that people are very defensive when u ask them why they are so involved with a person who's art they haven't liked in years and years. If the people who claim everything is crap believe as they say. Then they appear to be even more obsessed with prince than those who still enjoy the majority of his work. Metaphically (sp) we are engaged in a current love affair where they are the equavalent of the jilted lover that can't quite move on. In other words Prince surely f**ked the taste out of their mouths and they cant quite give up the hope that he'll do it again. What i find foolish about the whole pre 1988 - post 1988 thing is that it is simply an easy way of people dealing with the fact that at some point the ever evolving prince lost them somewhere at some turn. For some it was the loss of the orginal revolution, for others the use of rap, others the ditching of the linn drum sound, the new jazz sound, still others have problems with prince because he's human after all. Prince has been in constant change. Changing band members, production methods, and musical styles. Many here don't lke N.E.W.S but it is still mew ground Prince is breaking. There is nothing really like NEWS in his past catalog. Prince has matured is approach to music is more serious and less fun. A 20 year old and a 45 year old are not going to approach music the same way.

I come here most days because it's pretty funny, it's a topic I enjoy, it whiles away the time. Always hope to get some news or something. I don't care much for some albums, but I don't much bother to argue about them, it's a bit boring.
