Wow!
What a great thread this has been!

I think this is another example of the 'gulf' that seems to be appearing in the community when it comes to technology. It first occured to me when the NPGMC was started up. Luckily I have a home PC with net connection, but i did feel for all his fans out there who aren't 'lucky' enuf to have access to a PC and take full advantage of the club's 'benefits'.
Now, even with bootlegs there seems to be a hierachy when it comes to quality!
All this MP3 source talking is fascinating to read, but at the same time I feel quite dizzy with all the techno jargon (I know u did ur best to explain Funkystrange) that has been written on this thread.
I like to trade, but I have to be sincere and say that I haven't got the foggiest idea where my traded cds have come from. I'm more concerned that
a: The person I am trading with is honest
b: They fulfil their side of the deal.

As long as i get what is agreed then I have to be happy with that.

But, saying that it IS important to know what is happening out there, whether u agree with it or not.

Man, all this wav file and MP3s talkin' just makes me want to throw my poxy PC and cd player away and dust off the 3 LP Royal Jewels and play that, to remind me of the time when I really believed that the quality on that vinyl bootleg was the best that we could have asked for!
sad

In reference to your point B
The thing is most people don't even know if the other side of the trade actually was fulfilled because although they have frceived their discs - they don't know the difference between an original and an mp3 sourced disc. It may appear to have been fulfilled but in reality that may be far from the truth.

People need to be educated about this before it gets any further. I have been following it in the Dylan, Beatles & Elvis newsgroups and was surprised it had never come up here yet.

thank you please

I thought I'd add my tuppence worth.
You are talking about trading bootlegs. The intrinsic value of a trade is negligible. Burning off a CDr and postage isn't going to break the bank. I therefore don't see why you are so up in arms. I have done a fair number of trades recently, and have been happy with my end on all. Obviously I want the best quality possible, and to the best of my knowledge (and ears) I haven't received any mp3 sourced material. (I have just sent off a trade to someone, and threw in an mp3 sourced Small Club just because it was laying around. I did tell the recipient about it's origin, and I hope if he decides to trade it on he does the same.)
Once I have my trades, if I like the boots enough I then buy an original, as I did with Small Club. Simple as that. I know the quality before I spend any money.
The quality of bootlegs now is amazing. You make the statement "The degrading quality of bootlegs" as if the actual boots are inferior quality to those previously released. Not true. You want to trade only for original sourced, great, who doesn't? But do you buy any original boots, or do you just expect to get the great quality for free while the bootleggers put all the time, effort and money into the product, while someone else spends their money on an original for you to trade?
All you have to do when trading is specify that you want reciprical CDr from originals.
Bottom line is you are talking about an illicit activity, which has very little financial outlay (the way you appear to do it). I find it quite amusing that you are so up in arms about this.
You want good quality original bootlegs, support the bootleggers and go out and buy them.

I reckon you got more than tuppence worth here, so you're ahead on this deal.
All orgnotes and emails requesting trades or how to acquire bootleggage will be ignored. - The ThreadKiller -

Yeah GSH I see your point exactly
Buyt I do buy my fair of share of original bootlegs, over 50 at last count, (I have probably had over 100 all up but have resold alot) I haven't bought an original for a while but still do buy one if I like the show enough.

I support the bootleggers, though if you consider trading AGAINST the bootleggers - then I would in fact NOT b supporting them. It's all how you look at it -

obviously everyone will have a different opinion but again we can get off-topic and talk about everything BUT the point I am trying to make OR we can deal with the problem.

thank you please
