I think I still have 'Madame X' by 'Madame X' on vinyl from the 80's.
I remember thinking that both the sound and the concept of a 3 girl group (with someone else behind the project) seemed Prince-influenced. . ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

I have that too & I agree, I particularly love 'Not that type of Girl' which was my reason for buying it in the first place.

I think this kind of mistake shows the depth of Prince's influence on funk. Nearly every artist that was doing funk and dance oriented R&B was getting something from the Minneapolis Sound: the keyboard sound driving traditional horn lines, the drum machine, or the nasty rythym guitar.
Bernadaette was buddies with Teena Marie at the time - who is on that album. I have a tape of her with Teena on the old Video Soul show when punk ass Dinnie Simpson was the host.

Shoot... I had made a tape of Madame X from someone back in the day...and the tape was like a little bit sped up so I got used to hearing it that way.
I even had a poster of Madame X in my dorm room! I've been trying to find that on CD for a long time...I love that album... and Bernadette Cooper rocks!
