I'm a fan of a accused pedophile...

The brother's music, and songwriting skills are phenomenal. THough at times it may seem as if he has two personalities: A spirtitual, religious, loving side, and an R&B Thug, Homey-Lover-Friend side. R. Kelly's latest album Chocolate Factory is fantastic (if you're an R&B fan). THe thing that struck me the most; is that he thanks his fans several times for their support in the liner notes, thank you section, a few songs, and there's ever a little message in the case behind the CD.

Now I'm much more of a Prince fan...yet Prince has also been through some hard times as well. Nothing like child molestation, and/or sick pornographic videos, but down times nonetheleast. Can you remember a instance where Prince sincerely thanks his fans for their loyalty to him. I mean lets be honest, we've been through some ups and downs, drastic changes and a few let downs (some will say alot of let downs). I don't believe Prince has ever thanked us for hanging in there. I've heard him say thankyou in concert, regarding a large applause, yet nothing more than that. I don't think he's entitled to thank us. Though it would be a nice gesture, to let us know he appreciates us.

Vis-a-vis what u said about R.Kelly, no.

If he's R&B then I don't like it. It's certainly not soul music. His voice is very limited and his music is simple and uninspired. Name me one piece of amazing music that could even come close to a Stevie or Marvin tune.

He is the epitome of modern 'R&B' mediocrity.

File next to Beyonce, Ashanti, Pharrell (sp?) etc.

What about the celebrations? Opening Paislye Park to us? Personally I have been to some concerts at Paisley Park for free over the past 10years. A $7 donation was asked for but not demanded. That's thanks enough 4 me.

I dont' think he needs to thank us. He does what he does for himself first and foremost and if we like it, cool, if not, then it's no skin off his nose.

By the by, I thought this was gonna be about MJ as well!

You might effusively thank every one of your fans too if you could escape a jail cell as long as Kelly has. He knows he's fortunate to still be a free man at this point.

No offense, but I've never understood the people who go on about his music. It's very by the numbers, formulaic stuff. Nothing dynamic going on.

id agree, r kelly in the UK to me was known more for ballads, then he did remix ignition and that was a huge hit, but i was a bit disappointed how such a "legendary" r n b producer and singer, ended up so formulaic, dressed like all the other r nb "stars" and acting like them, and suddenly he had a number one again. but disappointing. as for p, didnt he put every members name on the linear notes of ONA LIVE (apart from RDHULL so it seems!) and at a celebration say something like, "i might have been many things over the years...but one thing i am NOT, is ungrateful"

i think thats a great quote. does r kelly let fanclub members get front row ticks, get onstage and dance and go to aftershwo for funky jams for a couple of hours for free either?

I can´t tell you exactly when and where, but Prince thanked his fans several times in magazine interviews and during concerts.
In my opinion, his most personal "Thank you" was the celebration in 2002...yeah I know, he charged us 250 bucks, and believe me, some people here on the org. know how much stress I had getting the the ticket even though I was an NPGMC member ( technical problems on behalf of the club!), expensive overseas flight, accomodation, renting a car and so on, blablabla...but still, he gave me the time of my life, I´ll never forget that fantastic week and I think 250 $ was OK cause he for sure delivered more than I wished for.
" I may be many things...but one thing I´m not..ungrateful..thank you all for being here and sticking
with me through thick and thin , through all the ups and downs.." etc

something like that, I don´t remember it exactly, but very much in the same vein.
Prince, Xenophobia Celebration June 2002

Also, he mentioned the "troubled times" ( mid- to late nineties ) and how things got a bit difficult for him and everybody else and how much he appreciated that we still were into his music.

" My dad used to say:"Brother, change is good!".So I´ve changed...how ya like me now ??"
Prince in a very sentimental moment, Xenophobia Celebration june 2002

Today I like him more than I ever used to.
Thank you Prince.
Thank you despite all the things we sometimes don´t like.
( I guess you all know what I mean)
By the way, strange title to give to a thread like this.

Frankly I could care less if Prince sent out a big thankyou to all the fans - unless it is in the form of a free cd or something like that.
Is it important to you that Prince thank his fans?
I don't see the benefit.

R. Kelly is NOT an accused pedophile...I thought you were talking about MJ. If you've seen the video of R. Kelly, you will see that is NOT a little girl that he is having sex with. That is a young woman. He may have done something illegal, but he did not have sex with a kid.

For me, it's D'Angelo. Erykah Badu's pretty cool, some Jill Scott is ok, but she doesn't use enough live playing. Maxwell is cool but sometimes TOO smooth, but all of these artists are better than R.Kelly and the ones mentioned before, including that guy with the poor falsetto, Pharrell.

Yeah now it's NERD, before it was Rodney Jerkins. It's always someone, but not for long. They all wish they could produce like Stevie or Marvin. D'Angelo's vocal layering is pretty cool too. That takes some skill and patience.

Actually, Prince gave what I considered a sincere thanks on the fourth nite of his Uplugged Celebration show in 2002. Check it out:

So yeah, he doesn't always do it like that, but I like to think he notices.

Damn supernova we think alike quite a bit. R. Kelly is a very standard R & B songwriter/performer. If he is ever considered legendary it will just point to the fact that R&B has diminished as an art form. He is insipid. Jumps on every new trend. Has very juvenile lyrics. Never has come up with anything remotely profound musically. And really is an average singer. One very average Prince tune runs circles around the best R Kelly. nod I've been hearing songs here and there from his latest album, and I can't believe how some people in another forum were going on and on about it when it was first released. I was thinking to myself, "Is this it??? It completely underwhelmed me. If this is what passes for an R&B watershed, our standards have spiraled downward. disbelief

Pharrell is more than just R&B mediocrity. Listen to some n.e.r.d. and then get back to me.

Is to. smile

NERD isn't R&B at all. I wouldn't put them in the same categorey as rodney Jenkins, erykah badu, or d'angelo. They are VERY different. You obviously haven't heard anything they've done so why be so judgmental? NERD is not the Neptunes. The Neptunes are the producers, NERD is a band. Two of the same people, NOT the same thing.
