Song Of The Day - 'Annie Christian' (1-9-04) The first song that really, truly captured the 'cold' electronic sound that would become part of the Revolution's identity. What caps it for me is the guitar solo, which isn't frenetic or frenzied but fits the song just perfect.
I remember hearing this when I was 12 and thinking for some reason that I was listening to something taboo... Annie Christian wanted 2 be number one But her kingdom never comes Thy will be done She couldn't stand the glory She would be second 2 none The way Annie tells the story She's His only Son Annie Christian wanted 2 be a big star So she moved 2 Atlanta And she bought a blue car She killed black children And what's fair is fair If U try and say U're crazy Everybody say, "Electric chair!" (Electric chair!) CHORUS: Annie Christian, Anti-Christ Until U're crucified I'll live my life in taxicabs Annie Christian, Anti-Christ Until U're crucified I'll live my life in taxicabs Annie Christian was a whore Always lookin' 4 some fun Being good was such a bore So she bought a gun She killed John Lennon Shot him down cold She tried 2 kill Reagan Everybody say, "Gun control!" (Gun control!) CHORUS "Liar, liar, liar!" Gotcha in a jam Put your head on the block Somebody say, "ABSCAM!" (ABSCAM!) -reprinted from DTT Lyrics

Great song. I DON'T WANT TO BE NORMAL,because normal is part of the status quo, which I don't want to be a part of- Tori Amos

Funny, I've listened to it about half an hour ago, together
with "Let's Work". I think those are my two fav tracks on Controversy. I like Annie most for the experimental new-wave-ish sound. It's quite unlike most other Prince tunes. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I forgot to mention...does anybody know what he means by: "Until U're crucified
I'll live my life in taxicabs" One of those lines that I've wondered about.

GREAT song.
I love that "cold, electronic" sound. Has one of those vibes that makes the tune hard to categorize. Love it

I'll live my life in taxicabs" One of those lines that I've wondered about. It means that until something is done about the situation [the one Anna Stesia is the female personification of] is solved, he'll live his life on the run. Out of a suitcase and running from city to city. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I dig the live versions I've heard best~
What was strange...was in fact back in the day growing up my family and I knew a black family across the street last name Christian. Moms first name Ann/ie. Good people. But being the kid and into Prince music we knew about this song and the silly brats we were would see her come home from work or outside etc...and me or my friend would start saying Annie Christian was a whore!! Glad she never heard. Bad kid 4 that one but thats youth 4 ya;)
