Prince's bodyguard has been fingered about stealing a digital camera. Anthony Fitzgerald, 19, notified Twin Cities airport police about Symbolina's bodyguard allegedly taking the camera Monday evening after a photo was taken of the fading rock star. Fitzgerald was waiting for a flight that would take him and Carah Barrett, 20, to London for the new year, when she said, "Oh, isn't that Prince?" Symbolina was deplaning near an L.A. flight, the college kids believe. "Sure enough, it was him in his sunglasses and everything trying to make a big deal out of nothing," said Fitzgerald, when reached Tuesday in Great Britain via cell phone. "There was one of those carts waiting for him. He hopped on that and was waiting, I guess, for the rest of his party. I went over and took a picture," said Fitzgerald. "I turned around, and right in front of my face was his bodyguard, who said, What the hell do you think you're doing? Snatched the camera out of my hands and got on the thing, and they drove off." This is no way for a door-knocking Jehovah's Witness to allow his agent to behave. I'm still awaiting Prince's version of the encounter via his NYC attorney Londell McMillan, who was telephoned Tuesday. Airport police Lt. Matt Christenson confirmed, "We do have a report of it. The report is still in process and under investigation." Airport police are awaiting Fitzgerald's return from Europe, at which time he'll file a complete report. "They wanted to delay the plane so I could fill out a police report. I didn't want to hold up 109 people," said Fitzgerald, a sophomore at the University of Kansas; Barrett is a sophomore at North Dakota State University. In the meantime, Fitzgerald's Edina mom, Michelle Lee, is looking for a little purple behind, and that's not because Symbolina once wore buttless breeches onstage. "I'm leaving him A NOTE within the next two days! Ron, my boyfriend is writing it up for me. I'm furious. I want my son's camera back," said Lee, who works as a server at Bacio. "That is wrong and dirty. Who does this big goon think he is? Here is a college kid who works at Russell Stover down in Lawrence for like $7 an hour, part-time job while he's going to school. He doesn't have money. This is a good kid. Never been in trouble. Super kid and just really likes Prince." Earlier, Lee was miffed with airport authorities, who seemed to be giving Prince the celebrity benefit of the doubt. "First, I talked to security, and security said, We can't do anything. I said, 'Don't tell me you can't do anything about it. This is ridiculous!' " At a minimum, Fitzgerald should ask Prince for the total replacement value of the camera plus the fair-market value of a Prince photo. "I like that idea," Fitzgerald said. Hollywood gossip columnist Janet Charlton told me a Prince photo isn't worth what it once was. "He's not hot," said Charlton. "Prince's picture is not worth a fortune unless he's looking really interesting one way or another; either extravagantly dressed or conservatively dressed. There is a curiosity factor. Has Prince changed? [Is] that whole '80s thing still going on with him?" laughed Charlton. "I want to know if he still wears high heels, personally." Unless he's grown a foot, sadly the answer is probably yes. He was dressed in black.
