I saw it Denver at Fiddler's Green. 5th Row seats, thanks to the "Purple Circle" -- still better than any seats I ever got thru NPGMC. It was after this show that I saw my first Prince aftershow. It wasn't a very memorable show, other than it was my first, and it was at "The Church", a nightclub that used to be a church. I liked seeing Prince up on the altar. Chaka sang a lot, Prince had his back to the crowd for most of the show. Good times, good times. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

It was my first Prince concert. 319 Boston, MA It was my first, too. The aftershow was at the Roxy, where my girlfriend's friend was the doorman. She got us put on the guest list for the aftershow, then got lost trying to find the fucking place! We missed it. The Normal Whores Club

Charlotte, NC--8/2/97
Raleigh, NC--8/17/97 Raleigh aftershow at Plum Crazy's (amazing show that is not listed on the "today in Prince history" part of this site!!!) Atlanta--1/8/98 Overall, good concert but definitely not close to Lovesexy or One Nite Alone. The band wasn't as good (Kat, Kirky J) and the shows were too short. Didn't mind the lack of a theme but the theme tours seemed to have more of an impact. Still, better than 99% of the artists I've seen live.

Ah the good ole days! I went in San Jose a few times, Mountain View, and then the Gorge in Washington. Those were the first times I sat close to the stage. I've been spoiled/messed up ever since!

I had been sick with food poisoning for about a week. Heard about the show in Tampa the day of and I got better fast. Tix were still available so I bought tickets for the show AND Greyhound from Orlando to Tampa.. couldn't risk driving in my state.
The overall show was off the hook. He dropped an instrumental guitar piece in the middle of his set... kinda struck me as an alternate version of Alexa De Paris. Not sure what it was but that song alone made the show worthwhile.

Ditto Hard to say which one was best they were all so different! Wembley was more a classic greatest run, Brixton was like a full on freestyle party and Cafe de Paris was just surreal! Actually those were the second, third and fourth times I saw him! ..... BULLSEYE!

I saw that tour three times...once in 97(the first time I ever saw Prince in concert( I guess at the time) and that was in St. Louis. The first thing he did before singing a single note was come out and start humping one of those dragon statues that were on each side of the stage to the opening sounds of "The Jam of the Year". This is when he was still using all of his foul mouth wizardry(Sexy MF;Face Down) The second was in early 98 in Little Rock, Ark. and then the next night in Kansas City.(By that point he had started the Stauros stuff and didn't cuss anymore.) Oh and coincidentally, that was also after he had picked up Larry Graham and GCS as his opening act. "this is where the PURPLE PARTY PEOPLE be"

I saw the small club show at the roxy in Boston.. cool show, especially "One of Us" and the Cross. The best part was walking into the club hearing Emancipation on the system and being faked out by a life size Prince cut out at center stage. It took a second look to make sure it wasn't him! ______________________________________________

as for this tour I saw it in Hollywood at the bowl and in Irvine at the Irvine Meadows Ampitheatre now renamed the Verizon Amp.. I bought 1 front row ticket for the Irvine show and bought lawn seats for a half a dozen of my friends ... they weren't even fans but wanted to share my excitement cuz it was the 1st and only time P played down in here in Orange County! Sheila E also made a guest appearance and played percussion for a few songs! My fave song performed during this era was and still is "Talkin Loud and Sayin Nuttin" that shit rocked!!! btw I noticed rreef gotta an avatar.. you go boy!!! enjoyniki, your long overdue on gettin you one too! The last tour Prince went all out with his dancing, piano jumps/humps etc. Loved the lights out intro with the teasing of the crowd with edits from the big hits. I have a video from the Oakland show and it is Fabulous. Especially the Piano Melody... OMG!!!

Actually those were the second, third and fourth times I saw him! Me three! I loved the build up to that week. I remember chatting to people online, even posting directions to people about how to get to the Cafe De Paris... Hell, do you remember the palava with the phone system for the CDP? I hauled my butt into work for 6.30am to start the endless calls from 7am. I had staff members making the calls for me on the other two phones as well! By the time we got through (at 11am), our fingers were numb! I enjoyed the Brixton gig the most out of the 3 nights, though. "Brixton was like a full on freestyle party" is so true! Oh, and I have the t-shirt that the picture came from. My cousin worked at the Target Centre (is that it's name?)in Boston when he played there. It either says "staff" or "staff member" on the front, can't remember. Max [This message was edited Tue Jan 6 22:10:44 PST 2004 by Igo2DaMax] ...I go 2 the max...I'm not afraid...I wanna dance...

jseven said: Two times; (4 if u wanna count VH-1 Honors and the pantages show the night after for the Love 4 one Another tour) once at the Hollywood Bowl October 97, which was the shortest show of the tour. (80 Minutes if even that) GCS opened played a very long set. Prince's set was short because of L.A. curfew laws I believe although for years we all blamed how long Larry's set was. Saw him the next night in Irvine and performed a way longer set and even though I was way further back, this show was more enjoyable than the Bowl. After Leno in July 1998, Prince did a special show at the Keyclub on Sunset. D.J. spun a grip of Prince and it was off the hook. Larry took the stage for about 45-50 minutes and Prince took the stage round 11 and played til after 2 A.M. Mr. Hayes was spotted walking thru the crowd before showtime and Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale stood right next to me for a good portion of the show. Highlights were "Love Thy Will b Done", "The One", and a 10+ minute version of "Mad Sex". After standing in line for 6 hours, meeting some great people round me (purplekat & others) and some feet that wanted to pop out thier socket and kick me in the ass for standing on them so long, I left pleased and happy, cept for the pain in my toes. He was to return to the Forum in late 1998, which was put back to first due to the ankle injury in ATL and then cancelled a half hour before Chaka was to take the stage. Caused a major traffic jamm on the 405 and 105. Took Prince 3 years to come back to L.A. after the bowl and the Forum crap, but we never stopped luvin him. [This message was edited Tue Jan 6 0:20:14 PST 2004 by jseven] Ditto!!! Me too!!

It was my first Prince concert, at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit on December 27, 1997. At the time, I thought it was the greatest thing I had ever witnessed, but by that time next year, I had discovered bootlegs and live videos. Once I saw the standard he had set 4 himself with the "Parade", "Sign O the Times", "Lovesexy" tours and the ones b4 that, I felt cheated looking back on it. It was still a great experience 4 me, and I've seen him 3 times since then, but of the times I've seen him and the bootlegs I've seen/ heard, that has 2 be the weakest. That whole era just doesn't do it 4 me...
