Did Hammer Beat Prince to the Punch?

Back in the day, when Prince was still riding kinda high and Hammer was on the way out, Hammer remade/heavily borrowed When Doves Cry and did a song called "Pray"...Now usually when artists become "religious" overnight, this is usually a sign that they are commercially on the decline...so my question is...if u were Prince, would you remake your own songs to show your religious conviction? Any suggested titles?
you look better on your facebook page than you do in person hmph!

i wouldnt remake the songs, but perhaps do what prince does live and change the odd lyric. as for hammer on his way out at that time?! 1990 - prince flopped with graffiti bridge and film made him a laughing stock, hammer had biggest selling rap album ever and pray got to number 3. i think it was his last huge huge hit though cos his next album didnt do so well for whatever reason.

Yeah but then Prince came back with D&P, which was a commercial success...Hammer tried to go West Coast gangsta and then lost everything (sinks made of gold 100 member entourages and Arabian Racehorses might have had sumthin ti do with that)

aye fair point, haha, hammer sounds funny, he dropped the MC as well didnt he, poor sod, i think he did that when presumably it wasnt cool to be heavily religious and sing about saving the children all the time too.

Nah, it shows your growth and the journey you've taken to get you where you are now. It's a way of looking back...Ahhh this is the way I USE to think.
