The biggest reaction I ghet from non-fans is one of psuedo-acceptance.
The like Raspberry Beret, Kiss, Cream, Alphabet Street. But the think he is a wierdo who went of the rales at the start of the 90s and has slipped into oblivion. It's strange, if I like 4 or 5 songs of an artist, I'll check out what else they have to offer. But a lot of people, I mean the majority, unless it's absolutely shoved under their nose (i.e. through the media), they won't bother with it. I think a lot of people just assume that magazine reviewers, and the Top 40 charts are the barometer of success - i.e. they listen to all the crap, and pick out the best stuff for us. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Most people I know think he's OK but don't know why I'm so obsessed with him.
I have only 2 friends who r real haters. Ones a social recluse who belives music died with Kurt Cobain and that 1992 was the last good year for music. The other one had a premature menopause, hates the world & funnily enough shares the previous friends view. Still, they do make a lovely couple. All my other mates take the piss out of how much I like him but always dance 2 the singels when they're pissed. When I have a mass gathering at my place, "Purple Rain" is one of the few albums I can play all the way through without everyone moaning. However, none of them are anything near hardcore. I think one of my flatmates owns "Purple Rain" and I know a girl with a few 83-92 albums. ... ...or you get some other line about how can you possibly like him. i know its a lot to do with ignorance but you dont get the same level of hate when you talk about almost any other big star so what is it about prince? I know what you mean, its the whole sexuality thing. People are so uptight about sex and gender. Prince likes to ( well, used to like to ) embrace sexuality in all its forms and play with conventional ideas of gender. That kind of thing is a "no-no" for alot of people...a woman is a woman, a man is a man...the sheep are nervous... and thats that! To like Prince is to admit his sexual antics don't bother you...and to not be bothered means you must be a, like Prince, some kind of fag. This planet is choc-a-bloc full of morons.
