"Do U Dream Straight-Up Or Do U..." Listening to "Positivity" right now and wondering -again-
what exactly does he mean when he says Can U sleep nights do U dream straight-up Or do U dream in W's? I used to think it might be about wet dreams but now I'm not so sure. The song seems to political to make a reference to wet dreams. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

For me, "Dream in W's" means Who, What, Where, When etc, meaning do you regret your past or do you look positively towards the future. But there are many other interpretations. I guess if he made it today, it would be "or do you dream with J.W's" !!! Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

Enjoy the mystery of his lyrics as well, sometimes! This line follows the one about having a lot of gold--what did you have to do to get it and all that.

The song seems to political to make a reference to wet dreams. The line then refers to people who might really be losing sleep, but me myself (and I ) have been confused about that line. Double-U's could be 2 you's. In other words, two people. I don't know. Straight-up could be I. andy --------

Maybe "straight-up" means positive, "normal" dreams, whereas "in W's" means nightmares. You know, maybe the lines of the "w" letter are the key. Mixed up, up and down, just strange. Someone who's afraid of something, not at peace with himself.
...or maybe not. | |

Maybe in his brain a "W" is a "Z" on its side.

The song seems to political to make a reference to wet dreams. During your sleep cycle brainwaves are sent out from your brain and can be traced using a polysomnogram. A polysomnogram is a test of sleep cycles and stages through the use of continuous recordings of brain waves (EEG), electrical activity of muscles, eye movement (electrooculogram), respiratory rate, blood pressure, blood oxygen saturation, and heart rhythm and direct observation of the person during sleep. There are 2 states of sleep: non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. REM sleep is associated with dreaming and generalized muscleparalysis sparing the eye muscles and diaphragm. NREM sleep has 4 stages distinguishable by EEG waves. REM sleep alternates with NREM sleep approximately every 90 minutes. A person with normal sleep usually has 4 to 5 cycles of REM and NREM sleep during a night. The results of the polysomnogram often look like the results of a seismograph with consistant straight lines representing undisturbed sleep and fluctuations in the lines representing disturbed sleep. Presumably, when a person is feeling a crisis of conscience, the results of a polysomnogram would reflect a disturbance that would fluctate up and down like a 'w' instead of 'straight up' like a flat line result would.
