Is there a reason why three years has passed without a Prince album?

It's almost been three years since TRC. Never before has Prince left such a gap between releasing studio albums.

Writers block anyone? Well, if NEWS is anything to go by...

Okay, this is just another pointless and impatient "where-the-hells-that-new-album-Skip?" thread... Ignore it.

Okay, I'll be more specific:

Why has three passed since he released a 10-16 track disc of songs which have vocals and don't sound like they were composed in his sleep?

Erm...

TRC - October/November 2001
One Nite Alone - June 2002
ONA Live - December 2002
Xpectation - January 2003
NEWS - June 2003

All albums. TRC was just over 2 Years ago.

Whether or not you like his recent output is irrelevant. We don't do badly as fans when it comes to Prince, I just wish that his NPGMC would provide more exclusive music for members.

Because he didn't want to release such an album.

As much as I'd love an eclectic, vocal album from Prince, the past few albums are what he wanted to release. They are still albums.

As I've pointed out, I'd love the NPGMC to provide more exclusive material - I'd happily pay extra for it. But ultimately, Prince albums are never categorised. If Prince has written, produced and performed them, then they're Prince albums, whether they include vocals or not.

By the way, listen to NEWS a lot more and you'll find that it's just as fascinating as any Prince album released previously. Honestly, I was just as cynical about the album as you obviously are - give it a few more listens. I promise you that you'll eventually love it.

I forgot to mention that I don't like Xpectation one bit. Any reasonably good jazz artist could have come up with that one!

Hey, I have no beef with NEWS! To be fair, I ain't really given it much of a spin! I gave it a test drive once, but wasn't feeling in a Prince mood, so I placed it somewhere dusty, where U Make My Sunshine and Diamonds & Pearls usually hang out.

I think my inevitable frustration at no new vocal album will force me to admit defeat and actually give it a chance.

Its probably because he gets sidetracked on anything he does.. a good example is the crap he fed club members for year 2 (2002) of the npgmc. There were specific albums being promoted in tour books, and he swipes the idea when something different comes to his mind.. why? who knows for sure, but I'd highly suggest that he doesnt say or promise a word since that crap of a move, cause it wasnt a smart one. IMHO, I really do think he needs somewhat of a "co-producer" and a manager.. cause its obvious he hasnt taken one course in any business classes lol but its what they said long ago.. Does that diminish it in some way, because other good artists could have created it? It would still be enjoyable.

hahahaha very doubtful my friend... as my it seems my days of being "whipped" by prince is passing slowly but surely, and this running ure referring to, is only here.. Until the day his music excited me like it did. And dont confuse the occasional "bitching" that I do as being an uncontrolled fan or anything, because my posts consist of other artist and Im here for many different reasons than most around here..I may have paid that 25 dollars, but that doesnt make me go to npgmc.

The ratio on your posts says otherwise for being here. You drop a few posts in the 'non-Prince music and more' forum a week as opposed to the 20 you tend to drop in Prince music and more and NPG discussion alone in a day. If your days of being whipped are passing so surely you wouldn't post here so often about the npgmc. Prince's old music is definitely more exciting to me than his recent output. However, as an aspiring musician who obviously cites Prince as an influence, I would think you wouldn't be so quick to bitch about everything going on at the npgmc or Prince's personal life for that matter. Where's your music club? Are you pleasing everybody with your material?

Believe me I'm definitely not one of those folks you like to label 'fams' or 'sheep' and thinks Prince does no wrong. But, I stand behind the notion that if you don't know by now that Prince is not an acute business man, changes his mind at the drop of a dime, and makes eccentric decisions then you deserve to feel fucked, slighted, or like an abused fan. Either take the heat, get the fuck out the kitchen or hold on to the memories of what Prince's music used to mean to you and shut the fuck up.

I tend to agree with Haystack here. Some of this stuff isn't exactly what I'd most enjoy hearing, but it is a pretty consistent output.

I'd love an album of original vocal material, but I think Prince knows a huge cross section of listeners ain't vibing with what he has to say anymore. Maybe this is deterring him.

Have some tea and yoga your damn self. You are the one who gets your panties in a twist whenever shit doesn't go your way at NPGMC. I won't waste precious time arguing with you. Point blank, I think you're an idiot and the more you post, the more you prove it.
