That's a bit naive. A change of location doesn't automatically put a stop to a gossip columnist's obsession. In the end all, CJ is one of about 3 writers in MN who ever even mention Prince. She is the columnist that makes most people here aware that Prince is still alive. So, in a weird way, Prince should thank her, cos without her, most in MN wouldn't even know he was here.

Lawd, girl, settle down. I've been into P for plenty long enough to know how he operates. All that I'm saying is that CJ is doing her job. It may not be a job I think is very necessary, but it's her job. Also, most of her writings are tongue-in-cheek. In the end all, when CJ writes about Prince, people always come to me to talk about it (as I'm the available "Prince Nut"). These conversations invariably turn to me talking about what he's doing musically these days. So, CJ's writings WORK cos they keep people talking about Prince. For as much as you suggest Prince wants to be left alone and not talked about, he surely still wants people sending him their money. CJ's columns, as stupid as they may be, keep people in MN aware that Prince still exists and every once in a while gives us 'fans" a chance too educate and get a person out buying a CD. And if you don;t think Prince wants that, then YOU need to get your brain cells checked. --- First of all I am not upset over this. However,I am never going to defend a gossip columnist. For obvious reason that I am not going to go into. There is a difference between wanting people to buy your records and having your every move reported by the media. I am pretty sure no one in America really cares if Prince waved at the crowds that stood outside of his wedding or . that he bulldozes his old home. I hope the citizens of MN have other things to worry about. If they are fans they should try buying the music. I kind of think it is normal to want your wedding to be private. It is one of the few normal things Prince has done. Even doing the PR era you did'nt see Prince doing interviews. I don't see this guy knocking himself out to get media attention and sometimes I wonder how pressed he is to sell records since you need media attention to help sell records. No watchout for the sucking sound that you hear. It is your brain cells leaking. Okay, it's not like CJ's reportings are Front Page news in MN or something. She's got a crappy li'l 2 column feature squished half-way through the paper. Most people I know who do read her column do so, roll their eyes, giggle and move on. No need to take it so damn serious and rush to poor Princey's defense. No need to worry bout that sucking sound you hear. Very few writers ever discuss Prince, mention his releases, etc. Every time CJ does a silly piece, I have co-workers and the like who always stop-by and say "what's this about?" The conversation typically includes "I didn't think he still lived in MN" and "didn't he retire?" 
I really didn't post my first post on this thread to start any fights y'all. I was just tryin to give some perspective. When you read CJ's bits here on the org, they seem HUGE and people get all riled up. All's I was tryina point out is that CJ is just this silly columnist with a silly li'l column in the middle of the MPLS paper. Few people take her seriously in "real life" and we shouldn't take her seriously here either. That's all. End of my input. | |
