Prince mixes very overt themes of religion and spirituality in his music.

When you do that, it will create or draw very polar opinions.

Think about MJ's fans who seem fanatical, and stick by him regardless of what he is going through.

I think any pop music artist has that slice of fanbase - and I think the values that those fans express, is directly attributable to what the artist puts forth in thei art, music, and public persona.

You get back, what you put out.

What I seem to have gotten out of the NPGMC is not that there are differing opinions, per se. They don't seem to tolerate any opinions outside of 'Prince is Manna'.

It pissed me off so bad one day, because I was just offering some suggestions about how I thought the club could be better next year and some heffer comes out of a shadow on the wall to tell me that I shouldn't tell Prince how to conduct his business and how I should be thankful for this and thankful for that. Like I need somebody tellin' what I should be thankful for when I'm spending my money? Last time I checked, the NPGMC was a business like any other one. And if I'm a paying customer I'll offer whatever criticism or praise I feel necessary. And it wasn't like I was slamming it or anything, it was constructive criticism.

Anyway, when it comes to messageboards, chat rooms and the like, it's all about the vibe for me. And people fuck shit up on the regular over there.

copy...print...save

I feel u and lol at how u explained it.."and some heffas cme outta nowhere..."

The idiocy and cult behavior of some of his audience (at npgmc at leats) has NOTHING to do with religion or spirituality though..its about being an asskisser to get brownie points..point blank.

I agree, and my whole point of that post was regardless of what the artist expresses in their music, you are gonna get a slice of the fanbase that take what the artist says too seriously.

With Prince, recently it seems to be religion.

The amount of posts that quote passages in the bible, or relate directly to the bible, it's pretty scary.

I saw no religious chat amongst fans upto the point when Prince started blabbing about it all, say in the past 3-5 years.

Same with all the Miles Davis ass-kissing a while back. Prince mentions Miles in a few interviews and sticks a bit of pseudo-jazz in his last few albums, suddenly Miles is God and he's chatted about all over the shop.

The NPGMC is a joke, Prince seemingly has no intention of using it for it's obvious purposesm eveb after all this time.

I agree, I think many people here have had a similar experience.

Isn't it wierd how so much proposed positivity can really be a negative.

The atmosphere of the message boards and interactive features of the NPGMC are not constructive to either the fanbase, or Prince.

I guess us saying this here makes no bones over there, we are the ones who "don't get it", they are the ones who are appreciating Prince for what he gives them, yadda, yadda.

Universaluv

Seems to me that there are factions of his fanbase, both pro and con, whose zealotry can be pretty scary to observe.
