well Prince has his cult now--juxtaposed with religious zealots "good gawd"-Prince
It is truly amazing. And ironic since he claims he doesn't want this to happen ( don't worship me etc). In their chat room there's usually a crazy wacky vibe with the usual select 5 or so who are adamant asskissers to their mods and the site ..why I don't know. My asskissing always came from loving the music not trying to get in good with the site, mod people, etc..from my heart and honest imho. Well some of these ass clowns have some secret code to get a moderator somehow or something. I enter the room and a few seconds later a known asskisser supreme presses the alert button ..seems she did not like the debate that was givin about Prince selling out at different times during his career. For example She couldn't handle the suggestion that Prince wrote songs like Raspbery Beret and Take Me With U to appeal to a larger audience. This person became zealous and thinking that any other view was desparaging Prince etc.."what have u written..what have u .." etc. Huh? It was funny yet scary. Then when mods came for whatever reason (uh huh) she began to talk bad about any other artist that was brought up lol. This girl was always a wack job anyways and even privately AIM-ed me once trippin out and I clowned her yet appeasing to her nuttiness and ..lets just say it was semi weird-scary that someone could be so air headed( "tell me who said things about me, about the power I have at the site, ..." ). The other scary part was the usual people --well one..who was usually level headed and how they became a different perosnality once the mopd showed up and the said npgmc memeber got adamant in her stance on berating others who "she" felt were ...being mean to Prince. Well when Prince had his TRC listening party celelbration year a prominent Prince webline member stated "Prince wants a CULT'( i HAVE TO LOOK THAT UP SOMEWHERE AND FIND IT) and it sems true..he wanted it and now has it. Not the people who will attend his shows and buy his music no doubt..but these ..people who change their whole attitude and forget their own individuality etc..its weird ..these are grown folks too It mirrors religion to me..Ive seen some of the worse (or is it worst) attitudes from people who are in the church..I mean mean spirited in the way they do things and degrade others under th e subtlety of religion..and try to be "in good" with the church or pastor..forsaking any dignity or decent behavior to others... and thats the juxtaposition in my opinion. It has become like a church..the ones who are there mocking the others dress-drag and what they did on Saturday night while they themselves been doing bad and robbin and drankin on Mondays right after church on Sunday..

Prince mixes very overt themes of religion and spirituality in his music.
When you do that, it will create or draw very polar opinions. Think about MJ's fans who seem fanatical, and stick by him regardless of what he is going through. I think any pop music artist has that slice of fanbase - and I think the values that those fans express, is directly attributable to what the artist puts forth in thei art, music, and public persona. You get back, what you put out. What I seem to have gotten out of the NPGMC is not that there are differing opinions, per se. They don't seem to tolerate any opinions outside of 'Prince is Manna'. It pissed me off so bad one day, because I was just offering some suggestions about how I thought the club could be better next year and some heffer comes out of a shadow on the wall to tell me that I shouldn't tell Prince how to conduct his business and how I should be thankful for this and thankful for that. Like I need somebody tellin' what I should be thankful for when I'm spending my money? Last time I checked, the NPGMC was a business like any other one. And if I'm a paying customer I'll offer whatever criticism or praise I feel necessary. And it wasn't like I was slamming it or anything, it was constructive criticism. Anyway, when it comes to messageboards, chat rooms and the like, it's all about the vibe for me. And people fuck shit up on the regular over there. | |
