Did You Ever Feel That Prince Has Influenced You Perhaps a Bit Too Much?

I don't know about the rest of you, but Prince has been a great influence to me in my life. The influence has not just been in spirtual ways and for accepting people for who they are and not by their skin color, religion or whatnot, but musically as well.

I find myself wanting to quit my daytime job (which I'm totally bored with - lol) to become a singer, songwriter, dancer, etc. etc. just like he is. All this from a woman who has like zero talent in these areas (yeah, I know, I have a great imagination). lol People say "It's never too late to start", but it's been my observation that people who are successful in the arts field are folks who started when they were still in grade schol, and kept practicing and honing their skills until they got good at it. Unfortunately, I did not had the opportunity to do that while I was growing up, so I would be in serious denial to think that I could just go out into the world with no experience or background in the arts field and think that I would be a smashing success at it. I may have a great imagination, but I am also grounded enough to see the truth for what it is. smile

Perhaps in another life I will have these talents, but for now, I guess I just need to keep watching Prince perform, enjoy his music, and keep dreaming about having the same musical talent that he does (which I know is not possible). lol
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Actually, I have a lot of different other influences besides Prince. Maybe that's why I'm so mixed up 4 most of the time, cuz I've got so many backgrounds it's crazy, but like 90% of it I would say is mostly Prince. nod

I think it's amazing that one mans music can influence so many people in profound ways. To say that Prince and his music have touched me profoundly is no exaggeration.

Anji's hall of fame thread perfectly illustrates the effect Prince's music has had on our lives:

It's a classic. If Prince ever reads one thing from this site, that thread should be it!

Whenever I fall in love with an artist's songs to the extent I have with Prince's, that artist will always become a part of me.

So I'm definitely influenced by him, but moreso by Michael Keaton (his performance of Batman).

u sound like u have no confidence, dont give up, dont stop dreaming, go for it, if u stop now u will never reach anything.
ok singing in clubs and pubs anit the best place to start, but its a start. so many ppl dont make it, cause they have no confidence or they stop dreaming. Just dont give up hope, if u try hard, u will make it! hug

i've had the same dream, of becoming a singer or song writer, ok i haven't writen the best songs, but im trying, my singing is ok, my friends like my voice, i have never have been choached, so tht could be a down fall, but elvis never had one ever. My main dream is to become an actor, im just about to start in this new theatre club, i join too late to get the main role, but im going to work hard no matter who i am.

but all im trying to say after all this lol, is tht dnt stop dreaming, dont stop trying, work hard, and u will reach a goal!! trust me thumbs up!

"That baby", as you so indelicately put it, is the latest incarnation of the great and holy Phukutra Mhata, seer of all things, immortal keeper of the gates of eternity, font of all knowledge and light of the universal soul.

No, he hasn't influenced me, you think I'd listen to a damn baby!?

Hey, no need for apologies. Even Prince got the sleeve of his swiss cheese outfit caught on the mikestand at the 1991 MTV awards...no one is perfect.
