I think Mayte gets *way* too much of a bad rap here.

We don't even know exactly what went on (let alone is it our business - but then, that's no reason not to talk about it) - even if we have pieced together what went on, I think the dynamic of their relationship would have been hard on anyone.

Mayte is constantly called down on here, and I think it's unfair.

I totally agree. Mayte gets a lot of unfair stuff said about her.

My opinion is that some people trash Mayte now solely based on that she's Prince's EX-wife and they, in some twisted way think they're 'supporting' Prince or are being a good FAM by insulting her or putting her down. (aside from those who have legitimate opinions, good or bad, about her based on her music, dance etc) those same people then praise Mani as some sort of perfect sainted angel merely because she's Prince's *current* wife.

If Prince dumped Mani tomorrow then *she'd* become the new target of famhate and she'd be villified, and his next significant other would become the new "perfect one for Prince".

Yeah, I find it a bit freaky when people get virtriolic about someone who dated their idol. It's one step away from sending Prince hate mail and telling strangers in the hospital queue that he's your Husband.

Anyway, I think Mayté was and is cool. She was so young
when she hooked up with Prince. I'm surprised she hung
on for as long as she did.

Apart from everything else, it must have been one hell
of a ride, hitching up with a man twice your age, who's
one of the biggest names in showbizz and a notorious
controlfreak. Add to that the loss of your first baby
and the tabloid shit, the loss of control over your
life the way it was etc etc.

She deserves more credit than she gets from people.

So I don't see any reason why he should air her dirty laundry but we should keep the veil of secrecy over his indiscretions?

In addition, Prince doesn't seem to have any problems with imposing his personal beliefs on others--which is essentially his way of invading our personal life the same way we invade his. In fact, I think part of the reason some people (like me:)) don't really mind invading his privacy is because we feel he crosses the line by invading ours and telling us how we need to live our life and how we need to think. Treat others like they treat you.
