Prince live at the Aladin DVD I just saw this dvd today at HMV and still debating whether or not to buy it. i brought the rave video and although the performances were generally really good i didnt the filming quality was all that.
I was wondering what the new dvd was like, i'm sure the concert itself was great but is the filming better quality than rave ? [This message was edited Mon Dec 29 6:15:52 PST 2003 by AshK]

The DVD is really good. Worth it just for his amazing performances of The Everlasting Now (SO funky live!) and the beautiful performance of Sometimes It Snows In April.

To be honest - No.
Let's get the downside out of the way:- It's got that American too bright picture colour problem. It's also not the full performance. However, if you can take on board the above and aproach it with this in mind, you can still have fun & party with it. After all, ONA was one very special tour. Sure, the DVD could have been better but it is not crap by any means. "You know, you're the classic example of the inverse ratio between the size of the mouth and the size of the brain"

The quality is 100 times worse then the Rave DVD so if that is an issue you must AVOID this release.

I say buy that damn thing. The music is superb. I was very satisfied with it's quality, as was all my friends who viewed it. They were too busy dancing to be concerned with the color, hues or exact camera angles. Get it.

The film quality is infuriating, but the performances wipe the floor with the Rave DVD - it's definitely worth having, and I've watched this thing more than any other Prince live video since the Purple Rain Live tape.

Just buy it.. its not bad for a collector.
Good Quality And it was only 9 bucks.

i think its like £15 in HMV. i couldnt watch the rave one because the angles and the dodgy camera movements put me off. i went to the ONA show in london and it was amazing so it would be nice if i could watch it again so i suppose i'll buy it soner or later.

Ask yourself this: HOW MUCH DID I PAY for the XxxxXX Xxxx bootleg back in 1995.
Okay. How crappy was the quality? Sound and video alike. Okay. How much is the Aladdin DVD? Right. Much cheaper. When you think of it as a bootleg from a live show, the value is great, the quality is great, and these puss-bag whiners should get out of the comic book store more often. It's good. It's good. It's good. If I paid $40 for it at some used record store, thinking it was a bootleg, I would crap myself at the AWESOME QUALITY! Look at it that way. In all honesty i dont own many bootlegs, its only been the last year or two that i started to buy Prince's regular albums ! But i see what your saying all the same

Region 1, 0 or 2 aint gonna make the slightest bit of difference, as they are all from the same NTSC source anyhow, so transferring from a lower-grade source 2 a higher grade system isnt going 2 suddenly 'magic it betta'.
However...quality issues, bad camera-work (although the filming IS better than Rave - I agree with ya Chris!) and BRUTAL editing of the show aside, what u ARE left with is a superb performance. It's worth the price alone 4 his SUBLIME take on 'Gotta Broken Heart Again' - a real 'moment', trust me! (..and if anyone has managed 2 disc the audio...id really appreciate hearing from u!)

After viewing Sade's Lovers Live DVD, I am not gonna complain about the quality of ONA, never have I really anyways...
The DVD's are the same in quality...her dvd is just as bootleg as Prince's and no one compared or complained about this! I guess Prince's fans expect too much out of the artist! Its a must have for the purple collection!

Well, otan made some good points there.
I would say: get it! I remember when the Live '85 vid was out and I used to think the qual was lacking. Well I'll tell you, I watched that sucker recently and i was sure glad that I have it! It rocked. The Aladdin is a wierd kind of performance and sure it could have a lot of things that it doesn't, but what it does have is an awesome show by Prince with an amazing band. Get it! get it! I thought it was tight...he made it look the way he did injecting what he desired into it...its not a real ONA concert as it was on the rest of the US leg of the tour. But Its worth buying no dout & fits great into the collection...would B great 2 get a whole lotta DVD concerts/shows like this, but time will tell right?

i would have said the version of The Ride is worth the 15 quid alone.
go for it its really not that bad imho Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

The picture quality isn't the best on DVD, but who cares?
It's a Prince live DVD and although it's an edited performance, it's pretty darn good. Buy it.

For the technologically non-savvy, how would one go about making it so that you can transfer the audio from the DVD onto an audio CD, or an IPod? Can you do that? No Candy 4 Me

Use a DVD to MP3 ripper, there's tons of them about.

The visual quality is much worse
The sound quality is more or less the same (which is good) The performance is many times superior. That's my take on it. 555-4444 you're on coffee talk.
