Small Club vs.(?) It Aint Over I think the reason why there is such a differnc ebetween the Small Cluv show and the It Aint Over ( up late with Prince & The NPG) is that Small Club performance was put on as an actual show to rival the commercial one he was doing at that time. The smll club performance was introducing new material as well and was performed wholeheartedly. The It Aint Over is just a retrun to old jams but done in ajazz form look what Iv elearned as a musician style. Small Club was an actual show and not worked as "an aftershow" so to speak...nor was the New mMorning performance...in my opinion of course. "Climb in my fur."

Well, RD, I couldn't have put it better myself. I think you've killed your own topic by being too spot on! U shoulda held back a bit "You know, you're the classic example of the inverse ratio between the size of the mouth and the size of the brain"

Nonsense. Small Club = Prince having fun. "Put on as an actual show"? He did how many of these, half a dozen? No wcompare to the 1998 shows where you had him do two tours, both equally shit, one a "GH regular show" tour and one an "old school funk aftershow" tour. SC = 1988 Prince = Prince at the peak of his powers, a man on a mission with a kick-ass band. © Bart Van Hemelen

And Prince is having fun by all accounts on his last ONA tour...so not "nonsense"..or at least not nonsense in that thats not a valid reason SC = 1988 Prince = Prince at the peak of his powers, a man on a mission with a kick-ass band

I know it is..so IAO has JIR, DP, and 2 Nigs as hilights..while Small Club has JMI, and Rave as its batrnburners...wil anytinbg ever beat Just My Imagination? JIR is the one tune that has to battle all of the Small Club highlights...because that Kansds City, People Without, Instrumental can be thrown out as far as Im concerned... "Climb in my fur."

I wasn't at either performance, but it seems to me that certain special recordings manage to capture some of the buzz of actually being there. The Small Club "Just My Imagination" gives me that peculiar elatory feeling. "Joy In Repetition" from It Aint Over does too, but like u say, it's fighting for that disc all by itself. That performance on that night made for an electric recording that's full of energy. Years down the line it'll still have a real buzz about it. Small Club still triumphs though.

Small club wouldn't be Small club without Instrumental jam and Kansas city. Blasphemer! You are not my "friend" because you threaten my security.
