Bonnie or Rosie?

I have been playing SOTT, Lovesexy and D&P on random select on the cd player and just wondering on people's thoughts on whether they preferred Bonnie Boyer (RIP) or Rosie Gaines.

Personally I prefer Bonnie's voice.
In the distance a light shines and I know it is mine. Someday I will touch it because it calls me. It says cross the line, cross the line. I know everything is not always what it seems, so I pinch myself daily just in case it's a dream

Did Boni Boyer sing "Downhome Blues?" on Small Club? If so, Boni over Rosie, whose voice annoys me most of the time.

Rosie can sing all over Boni. Boni usually sucked -- but she did have one killer moment, her feature in the SOTT film. Check out Nude Tour boots for Rosie's "Ain't No Way" or D&P boots for "Precious Lord" and "Dr. Feelgood." She was a great addition.

Hmmm. I think of Rosie as a musclebound singer -- tons of power, but not much grace. Boni always struck me as being less powerful but a lot more soulful.

Great summation, exactly why I prefer Bonnie.

Rosie by a mile. I loved Bonnie but her hollaring got to me after a while. Rosie's voice is more soulful and technically sound than Bonnie's was.
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

To each his own. Check out how she fucks up the "Take This Beat" section of "Wish U Heaven" on the Lovesexy Dortmund gig. Pretty typical of most of the live stuff from this era. Rosie's the one for me. Think I'll go put on "Nothing Compares 2 U" now...

Orgers crack me up, referencing shows I've never heard and likely never will... LOL!!!

NC2U with Rosie is a dream, though. I'll give you that. Indeed.

ROSIE!!!

R.I.P. Boni

But Boni sounded like she was trying to scream and clear her throat at the same time.

I agree.

Boni was a great background singer!
I really dislike Rosie ... I hate her voice, and I hate the tunes she's singing ... she wasn't just a background singer, she had her own stupid parts on the live-shows. Besides, she's partly responsible for my dislike of the D&P album.
But I don't blame her, it's Prince's fault ... he hired Rosie

I'd have to agree here.
Boni kills 'I Wish U Heaven' stone dead on the livesexy vid...but then again she does do a much better job during 'Forever In My Life' (from SOTT).

Still...I'll probably always prefer her over Rosie though. smile

They were both great additions to Prince's music. I think Im a little more fond of Rosie's voice tho. Bonnie's screaming was a bit coarse and jarring at times.

I prefer Bonnie. Obviously her solo in Forever In My Life in SOTT is classic.

I just preferred her voice and style. Rosie clearly is talented but her voice kinda grated on me. And don't get me started on NC2U with her & Prince... nothing compares to the ORIGINAL by The Family!!!

I saw Bonnie peform with Sheila's band during her "Sheila E." support tour (from which my avatar comes) and she shook my and my brother's hand.

And let's not forget she (and Rosie) played keyboards while singing!!!

And for those who don't know, Bonnie passed away several years ago... so as Everlasting said... RIP Bonnie. You were a blessing.

I don't feel like I got to hear Boni solo as much as you all have. Love her on Forever in My Life but outside of that I only remember her doing background. Anyway, like them both. Rosie's voice is stronger IMO...
