Prince or Bobby Z?

I'd have to say... John Blackwell.

John Blackwell is the shit man!

Sheila E is a VERY close second - but she is the best percussionist Ive ever seen - and anyone who can drum like she does in high heels gets my vote! eek

However, I just wanna say, porr ol' Bobby Z was there right from the beginning of Prince's recording career proper, and I think credit should be given where credit is due. He was a good drummer, but Prince's electronic evolution took control, and took him outta the loop somewhat (Im sure I remember hearing a story about Z being bemused as all hell at having 2 get used 2 that whole new Linn set-up - not 2 mention that they were the 1st band 2 intergrate that machine in2 their band and take it out on the road.

So...Mr Z, I salute u even if no-one else will!
thumbs up!

If we are comparing Prince and Bobby Z., Prince is so much better.
If we talk about his best drummer:

- John Blackwell
- Michael Bland
- Sheila E.
- Prince
- Kirk J.
- Bobby Z.

I think Michael B. is best drummer than Sheila, but Sheila is marvellous on percussion in general, I mean, she is able to play any kind of percussion, but on drums she's not something extraordinary.

I think you're not listening to Prince's drum moments very carefully.
Prince plays drums very well, not like a person who only is a drummer, but very well. It's a question of rhythm, and Prince got it.

Its between Bland and Escovedo.

No one else.

This has always been one of the hardest questions of all.

I'd have 2 say on drums...

Bland.

Pound for Pound Blackwell is the best.
But Bobby Z. was really doing something original (whether forced by Prince or not) he was doing some cool original shit. Michael Bland is the greatest "rock" drummer I've ever heard/seen. He plays like a ton of bricks, those rock tom fills are the shit. I think Sheila is a very unique sounding drummer, but she's a percussionist first. So she is melodic and smart...but give Bobby Z some love he really played his ass off in a (then) new situation.

This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Bland is not only an extremely talented drummer, but one of the nicest people you will ever meet (and the largest). Show some respect!

For some reason, I think Michael B is the better drummer of all of Prince's drummers. John Blackwell is a close 2nd. If John could make the drums on Shh boom as well or better than Michael B, then he would be my top pick. Both of them are excellent drummers. Sheila E. is my 3rd favorite Prince drummer. I beleive Kirk is my least favorite of all. When he played with Prince, Prince's music didn't have the funky feel it has with John, Mike or Bobby.

Well,I don't know about best, but Sheila is my favorite, the way she tore it up during the SOTT/Lovesexy era(especially on Funk City)has a powerful effect on me.
If I were to play the drums,I wanna play like that!

No one played Prince music better than Bobby Z. I play drums because of him, and before some fool says a WORD about a drum machine go listen to Parade live and shhh

Sheila for me was probably the best drummer he's had skill wise and all around pressence though.

Michael B is AMAZING and I love his sound and John B for me is overrated. I haven't heard him play anything so far that Michael B couldn't do and Michael at least always changed his solos around.
