My dad started up a conversation about Prince... yeah, my own father got to talkin about prince when i was on the phone with him earlier--he initially called me to ask why i hadn't called him in a while (i was gonna call him tomorrow to wish him a merry x-mas, but i guess he couldn't stand to not hear my voice any longer).
anyway, we were talkin about somethin (i think we were talkin about the minnesota timberwolves or sumfin like that, cuz i live close to the target center here in mpls), and all the sudden my dad mentioned ol' boy. my dad knows that i like prince and i've told him about some of my trips to paisley park n'stuff like that...he always says "he's cool, but he's one weird little dude!" 
he asked me, "he's gettin older now, right?" i'm like, "yeah, he's about 45 now." dad goes, "man...he that old, and he still looks like he's a teenager!!" 
it was unexpected, but still kinna cool. that conversation got me to thinkin: if my mom were still alive, would she be just as big of an admirer of prince as i am? she liked him too, from what my father's told me in the past--she wasn't an all-out fan, but she dug him. but still, i bet if she were still around we'd probably be droolin over his booty together or somethin.  | |

awww! Your dad sounds easygoing and lovely, my dad gets so hostile at the mention of Prince.

Yes, finally after 20 years, my dad has realised it was NOT just a phase. He has resigned himself to the fact that it is a passion, and even said "good for you" when I told him I spent AUS$1000 on concert tickets this year.
He understands that it is on par with his obsession with wine. We have agreed: he doesn't bore me with winetalk and I won't mention the little guy. Finally a happy truce. | |
