The new year is starting out on a good note. Prince is up for a Grammy, inducted into the hall of fame, and probably going to tour to promote a new album this summer.

With the Revolution reunion (expect another one or two in the next few months as well), and the 20th anniversary of Purple Rain this summer (and possible re-release of the DVD), it could be an amazing time for the man... but I thought the same thing in 1999 and he managed to shoot himself in the foot then, so I don't know.

NPGMC... it could become a big thing if he devotes the passion to it that it deserves, but it sounds like he is letting it dry up on the vine.

New album? Yes. Will it catapult him back into the spotlight? Probably not. I personally think he'll get more press for the R&R Hall of Fame/P.R. 20th Anniversary stuff than he will for any new album. The critics and fans know that he has been putting out stuff that won't make him huge again. It is going to take some dedication to a project to really shoot his career back into space. The last album that he REALLY pushed was D+P (I don't count Emancipation because he dropped that one pretty quickly and only released a single or two) and that was because WB was behind it. Prince feels that he got burned on his deal for RAVE so he may not do something like that again... unfortunately NPGMC is a musical graveyard when it comes to hits.

Could this year be huge for Prince? Yes. Will it? God I hope so.

Whatever he does, there will be plenty of ridicule, both deserved and undeserved.
