Grown Folks Music on BET 12-23-03 Last night's Grown Folks Music, BET’s retro video show, was a little interesting. It started off with "Little Red Corvette". The second video was “Encore” by Cheryl Lynn, a song produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. But the final video showed was a pleasant surprise. It was "The Walk" by the Time (circa 82?). I never knew there was even a video for this song!!.
It was a straight forward performance video with Morris Day disappearing out of his shoes in a puff of smoke at the end. As usual The Time’s performance was tight. Morris was noticeably wearing a lot of rouge and Jimmy Jam was on the keyboards without the hat, rocking this half-slicked down jheri curl hairdo, but hey, the look worked. Terry Lewis and Jerome looked pretty much like they do now. Now if BET could just show the video for the song "Cool" that would be, well, cool. I wish BET would extend Grown Folks Music to a hour or least try to fit in a couple of more videos into this half hour show. Every time I watch, only 5 or 6 videos air, with a whole bunch of those freakin' Zales jewelry commercials sandwiched in the middle. ~Using the Fat Albert emoticon 'cause no one else is... ~ | |

I started watching it a few weeks ago and discovered that, for a change, BET has started showing something worthwhile. I tape it every Tuesday. A couple of weeks ago they showed Sheila's "Sister Fate!" Maybe we can write BET and encourage them to extend it. I don't guess we can expect them to cut out the Zales commercials since that's probably who pays for it! Never trust anything spoken in the presence of an erection.
