Out takes not on Testament?

Is Testament everything that's in circulation?

I don't think so - I'd have to go through the listing to identify examples of missing tracks.

Possible examples? edit:

The version 'Billy' on Testament is edited.

No studio outtake of 'Electric Intercourse' is known to exist, so the set includes just one rehearsal (there are others) of the song.

I'm not sure 'Go' is on 'Testament', is it?

And, of course, 'Exploding All Over Europe' has only just been more widely circulated.

Yeah,"Go" is on Testament. The DVD doesnt have everything in circulation, but it has pretty much a VERSION (whether edited or one live version ) of every song thats circulating, except for of course any stuff thats come into circulation after it was mastered , but we're nitpicking really smile

The full tracklist is here:

Right - there's going to be some confusion here because 'Testament' was (I believe) originally released in CD mp3 format with an HTML interface (tracks featured chronologically over 4 CDs) - which is the version to which I was referring.

Subsequently, it has been issued in 2 disk DVD format (as per the tracklisting to which you've linked), with tracks presented alphabetically.

So it's probably fair to say that the later DVD version appears to be more complete.

And I agree with all your comments about nitpicking - as a collection of circulating tracks, it's pretty comprehensive!!!

smile

(Oh - and I see that 'Go!' was included on the original CD release - my oversight!)

These tracks are circulating and yet are absent from Testament:

Superfunkycalifragisexy #1 (original unedited demo from'86)
superfunkycalifragisexy #2 (instrumental version)
Data Bank #2 (from '86)
Erotic City #3 (8:47)
Elephants & Flowers (one minute longer than previously available)
Exploding All Over Europe (10:00)
Acknowledge Me #2 (6:27)
The Exodus Has Begun #2 (10:45)(longer than #1)
Race (from The Beautiful Experience) (unedited version)
Eye Hate U (6:17) (alternate remix)
Come On (3:38) (alternate remix from '98)

Also, there are a fair number of fakes on Testament, apart from edited versions of tracks such as "Billy", only available as rehearsal versions.

Some unreleased songs are also on the wrong folders, such as "Melody Cool"#1, "The Grand Progression", "Graffiti Bridge" and "Still Would Stand All Time", listed on Testament as being from 1989 when in fact they can accurately be deemed to be Lovesexy era demos.

Also, "A Capella" (from 1976) is wrongly catalogued alongside unreleased songs from 1982.

Think of it as a house track, which was intended for release on a 12-inch single around 1992. The records were pressed on vinyl but were never officially released.

It features Rosie Gaines' vocals throughout and Prince can clearly be heard in the background.

Don't forget that a great deal of these unreleased songs, whether circulating or not, have already been catalogued by those in the know.

It is common knowledge that a number of these unreleased tracks are now seeing the light of day because those who have been hoarding them for years have, for reasons best known to themselves, suddenly seen fit to put them in circulation, hence their recent appearance.

I can't be specific but collectors can definitely look forward to more unreleased tracks seeing the light of day soon.

I think it was November 19th on the usual forum of usenet.

There's nothing else in the recent past.

I've seen people refer to the DVD-rom version of 'Testament' as 'Testament 2.0 - Revelations.'

Revelations 2.0 is on a single dvd and has audio mp3 and video from the NPGMC for last 2 years. It is seperated in chronilogical order from 1976 - 2000.

Then,

Revelation 2.1 has the same thing on it plus extras.
It has the latest music on is. TRC, Xpectation,N.E.W.S. and C-NOTE.

Also has bonus cover material from the original artists and printable Celebration vip passes and NPGMC passes.

Pretty cool from what I have heard.

Really? What are the fakes?

On the original CD version of Testament, there are some songs where Prince's involvement is described as either 'questionable' or doubtful, as in 'Prince was probably not involved'. In at least some of these instances, I think it's fairly well accepted that he had no input. Examples include 'Trouble', 'So Fine', 'Suzie Lovelace', 'Different Kind Of Thing', and the Purple Rain incidental music composed by Michael Colombier.

In at least some of these instances, they have previously been attributed to Prince on some bootlegs, and therefore subsequently denounced as 'fake' - in the sense that Prince's involvement is denied.

I think most or all of the fakes on Testament are labeled as such. I love how Testament had those files with info on each song as well as the mp3s. Testament rules.

I haven't heard "Exploding All Over Europe" either. Can someone upload it to alt.binaries.multimedia.prince? Thanks.

I don't know why someone would sit on some great unreleased music and not share it with everyone. On the few occasions when I had something very rare and great like that, I wanted to get it out the Prince fan community as quickly and as thoroughly as I could. Some people just suck.

If you use a news server to manage your usenet access, you might well find it in the archive given that it is barelly a month since uploading? (Otherwise I suspect it's probably best to make such requests in a.m.p. rather than here).

Do you mean 'U Gotta Shake Something'?

It was recorded by Prince with others as part of 'The Flesh' sessions on 30 December, 1985. Eric Leeds (whose voice introduces the track) has provided background detail by way of confirmation.

Well, I do access alt.music.pince and alt.binaries.multimedia.prince quite a bit. I do see the Exploding All Over Europe "album" posted, but that all live stuff, not the studio track of the same name. Oh well, I'll track it down somewhere.
