You're right. there is just the live performance and several rehearsal recordings.

Prince worked on the live performance recording later but nothing official has ever emerged.

As for quality recordings, at least one of the rehersals sounds better, in my opinion than the First Avenue tape (I'm not knocking the performance mind). There are at least two earlier rehearsals, but it's clear that Prince still hasn't worked on a definitive melody for the chorus as he toys with singing it in different registers and plays with the melody line.

Of course, a quality official outtake release would be tremendous, but we'll have to wish for it ... and one wonders whether the the lyrics would be censored.
