Prince & Rick James

What do you think it would be like, a collaboration in the studio?

I know it would never, EVER happen. BUT they are two of my favourite artists. I think it would be cute!

SO what is P's beef with Rick anyway. I hear that he was furious with having to open up for him over twenty years ago. Is that it? I can't see P with Rick but P and Teena Marie.. now that would be the shizzle.

prince doesn't have a beef with rick..it's the other way around.

Ever since Prince opened for him, rick has dissed him.

not to worry though, rick disses anyone who can be a possible threat, this is just the norm.

You should find an interview with him(since most of them say something about Prince), jealousy in it's truest form.

It would be the BIGGEST clashing of egos, EVER.

I can just imagine, them trying to out do eachother on instruments and singing about how their wife is prettier than other.

rick is scary and gross now, like mickey rourke.

prince is still pretty.

rick sounds like he's been gargling with gravel.

prince can still break glass with his falsetto (usually).

prince is up for a grammy.

rick might be up for a gold-plated keychain from his 12-step group (maybe).

Supposedly, these two have been on bad terms since prince snubbed ricks fat momma when they toured together. I always thought rick was comparable but undisciplined in comparison with prince. goes to show how special prince is, throughout all his time in the spotlight, he's always kept on top of his chops, never let himself go like just about every other pop musician ever. This in spite of all the bitching about his music. Anyway, rick also said prince was a bad example, maybe his idea of a good example is burning chicks with crackpipes.

Rick never fails to bring up Prince and whine about him.
The interviewer never has to.

Rick and Prince's feud began in 1980 when Prince opened for Rick. The two didn't exactly hit it off,and Prince didn't really hang out with Rick or his entourage.Critics were reporting that Prince was routinely "stealing the show" from Rick. The next year,Rick began making negative comments about Prince.Back then,I would pick up a magazine (Right On,Black Beat,Rock and Soul, etc) and there was Rick, going on and on about Prince...

"You can't take his music seriously. He sings songs about oral sex and incest".

"He's out to lunch.Prince is a seriously disturbed young man. It's my job to keep reality over this science fiction creep".

"Something else...he doesn't want to be Black."

The insults went on and on.But Prince fought back.He supposedly enticed Denise Matthews (Vanity) away from Rick at the 1982 American Music Awards.During a 1983 Rick James concert in LA,Prince arrived at the venue during the opening act (Mary Jane Girls) with his huge bodyguard Big Chick carrying him to his seat. This,of course, created an uproar and the audience was paying more attention to Prince! Even the Motown executives were trying to get a look at Prince.Rick tried to appear unfazed, and he later told a journalist "I don't mind.Princess obviously came to see a pro".

In other interviews,Rick has accused Prince of stealing his idea for a sexy girl group.Prince's Vanity 6 came out in 1982,several months before The Mary Jane Girls, but Rick insists that he had the idea/concept since 1979.Also,in 1982,Rick mentioned a movie called "Spice Of Life" that was to be loosely based on his rise to stardom. But of course,Prince beat him to the punch when his own 'Purple Rain' film came out in 1984.(Rick's movie never materialized, but his 1985 "Glow" video was a blatant rip-off of "Purple Rain").

There were times when it seemed that the two of them were ready to patch things up.In 1988,Rick signed to Warner Bros. Records, and he claims that he had a long chat with Prince."We sat down and worked out our differences the way real men should do",he told a journalist. And at a 1994 Paisley Park show,Prince played a little bit of Rick's 1978 hit "You And I" as part of a funk medley. But as soon as Rick got out of jail in the late 90s,he continued his anti-Prince crusade, dissing him in many interviews.

lol so,I wouldn't expect a collaboration anytime soon

And let's not forget the worst offense of all.

According to the beautiful Ms. E. Rick stole their ruffles.

Maybe one day they'll be a box outside of Paisley Park with a pile of used ruffled shirts with uh, residue from Peru on them with a gold braided wig and a note saying:

"I'm Sorry. The only thing glowing was the pipe."

Rick and Prince are both making "Super Money" in publishing checks so right on to them both!

I would NEVER want to see this and it would be a pointless act.Rick is talented and made some really cool songs, but he is not on the same level at all and I can't imagine he has anything left in his tank. And even if he did,I think it would suck.Rick 's head is infected by demons that he has no control over.

Even when Rickw as still doing his thing he was crazy and unreliable.Eddie Murphy stated how crazy it was trying to get just 1 song finished with him(Party All the Time).Rick should be married to whitney and bobby so they can all smoke crack together ,beat the hell out of each other, eat funnel cakes and hot wings, drink alize' and bong water, and penetrate each other with jumper cables.

I think in the early 80's they pushed each other to create their most funkiest and best music. "Street Songs" has some of the best tunes and production of that era and "1999" showed that Punk-Funk could go even higher.

They both kick ass in my book..

Exaaactly! "Glow" was the bootleg version of "PR."

As for the duet...there's a better chance of a duet between Madonna and Courtney Love.

You hit the nail on the head. Rick recently performed at an areana not more than 20 minutes from my home. I know lots of people who went to this concert and they all said he was awful. Apparently, if the audience does not respond the why that he would like he verbally assults the audience.

Rick's just not a class act.
