Prince - 2004+ Hi guys,
All this talk about the supposed Best Of/Tour, 20th anniversary of 'Purple Rain' and prince's induction into the Hall Of Famehas got me seriously excited about next year... Who knows what treats we have in store for us...??! Anyway, this set me thinking - of all the older, 'veteran' artists past & present (Ray Charles, Little Richard, Miles Davis, Jimi, etc.,) whose career do you think Prince's will resemble in years to come? Or, to put it another way, which other musician do you think Prince might be compared to? Personally, I hope he ploughs his own musical path and has others compared to him in the years & years to come. Prince at 80?

At the rate Prince is going, I think his career will resemble the "Carpenter's" career. Not much fanfare, but okay music. Baby, Baby, Baby...what's it going 2 b?

Aah, I was waiting for someone to say that, Milty. I'm a BIG fan of both.
I certainly hope Prince sustains a level of creativity like Bowie has (or returned to, at least). I wonder where Prince would be now - musically, career-wise, etc - had he not fallen out with Warner Bros...?

I might get burned in the flames of Hell for saying this but I wish I could get 'into' Dylan, Milty. I have enormous respect for him but, I dunno, it just doesn't do 'it' for me. I must be missing out on something, I bet.

Unfortunatly, I fear his music won't get the respect it deserves until after his death. *********************************************************************************************

that's cool. i like Dylan, he's an amazing writer but he sings really badly.

That's already happening. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

that's cool. i like Dylan, he's an amazing writer but he sings really badly. Ah that's bollocks - Dylan's singing is all about diction and phrasing. No-one sings Dylan like he does, and you'll never hear as much venom, urgency and feeling anywhere other than 'Positively 4th Streeet' or the Free Trade Hall version of 'Rolling Stone'. Other than those who've done more radical covers (ie - full gospel versions of his religious songs, the hip-hop version of 'Rolling Stone' on the 'M&A' soundtrack), most are fairly ploddy re-treads of songs that can't be bettered - vocal-wise or otherwise... Check 'Moonshiner' for evidence of his ability to sing...
