Maybe...What about Q-Tip from Tribe Called Quest? This would have been interesting!

lol yeah he did do a take of Bambi. It wasn't a terrible effort and it was produced by Paisley Park so I'd blame P more than TC Ellis for it. It was kinda cool hearing the Bambi riff over a hip hop beat in a weird kinda way

I like Q Tip's voice so it would have been interesting. I always used to wonder what it would have been like if the had got MC Hammer to contribute a couple of raps on his songs as Hammer was a serious Prince fan.
Tupac would hav been great to have on a song or two also

No. Prince should have never incorporated rap into any of his albums.

I don't think it would've mattered who rapped. The way rap was incorporated into the D&P album didn't sit 2 well with me. "Willing And Able", 4 example, has a rap near the end and I thought that kinda ruined the song. And "Jughead"... don't even get me started with that one...

The prince album wasn't 2 bad as far as rap goes, but I still don't think changing the rapper would've made it any better or worse.

I pretty much agree with you with just one or two exceptions. It seems that P was hell bent on having rappers at the start of the 90's unfortunaely. I'm just wondering if he could have done better wth a differet choice.

Sexy MF has a reasonable rap and Doug E Fresh live in 1998 was pretty fun, but I wish he'd leave the genre alone, save for Days of Wild type songs.

I respectfully disagree. Nothing was fun about 1998 and definately not Doug E. Fresh still beatboxing. I just have a sore spot for Prince trying to jump on any bandwagon.

Yo.

Doug E Fresh rocked the aftershow in DC at the Capitol Ballroom back then... that was back in my guest-list daze. Prince played drums for a while in the shadows.

I dont think it would have made any difference in that I dont believe people bought Graffiti Bridge, Diamonds and Pearls and prince for the sole purpose of listening to rap music. I believe deep down in his own mind that Prince never really cared for and still doesnt care for rap music much. Although his opinions on rap/hip-hop music have changed of cause. This was made obviously clear with 'Dead On It' and if U look at the statements on music he makes today. The whole idea of delving into rap was just Prince chasing styles of what was popular at the time which even came across to non-fans. Why have Tony M or TC Ellis when Uve got the real deal with NWA, Public Enemy et al? Trying to look at it objectively, I think the general public and to some extent fans too, believe that Prince's time was in the '80s and the whole rap thing came across as rather cheesy.

Prince has very successfully used spoken word performers like Ingrid Chavez or the "Poet 99," but I've generally not enjoyed any of his incorporations of straight rap -- even by reputable MCs like Chuck D., Doug E. Fresh and Eve.

As for T.C. Ellis? I'll just say he and Tony are cut from the same cloth.

1) The rap in the 90's SUCKED..."Now" is hilarious and I heard someone make the comparison of P to Snoop. Interesting.
2) Q-Tip: oh, dirty thoughts. Have always loved Q. Posdnous too.
3) JimmyNothing. Don't know what to think about that name.
4) Who's TC Ellis? (Sad, I know, but I definitely --note 2 i's no a folks-- think that P should have left "rap" alone. Homeboy from the D&P was WACK! Yeah, I'm that old.)

Peace & love

Prince and rap simply don´t mix.
I grew up listening to rap in the 80´s , I hardly listened to any other music but rap and electro and funk ( Zapp, Midnight Star) and RnB (SoSBand, Alexander O´Neal,Club Nouveau) and of course Prince. Prince´s songs would always sneak onto my mixtapes back then, and the guy had massive respect in the HipHop and RnB world, he never should have tried to incorporate or follow new trends because he´s created his own style, his own genre/category and lost a lot of respect in the HipHop community in the late 80´s , early 90´s...
I always liked Prince in the early 80s but wasn´t a really big fan until I saw him live one day ( and until a friend of mine hooked me up with b-sides and bootlegs).

Sometimes it seems like there are two Prince fanbases, those from a "white", pop/rock oriented background and those who know Prince from earlier on or who appreciate HipHop and RnB...seeing myself in the latter category I would say that Prince with TC Ellis, Tony M, Doug E Fresh etc. was a bad idea, even though I like Days of Wild and some of his own raps. Still, it´s a bad mix.
Maybe it´s got to do with the fact that Prince´s music always reflected contemporary music, and the 80´s contemporary music influenced his music a lot. I don´t see how todays music could seriously inspire or influence him.
But that´s another story...
" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Prince's 'The Black Album' has alot of rap songs on it like 'Dead On It' and 'Bob George'. As 4 rap in his music, I have mixed opinions, Prince's rap on 'The Latest Fashion' with The Time from 'Graffiti Bridge' is kinda OK but I don't think Prince successfully incorporated rap music into his music.

Songs like 'Jughead' prove my point, I think Prince just included it 2 appeal 2 a new audience.

Is Prince a rap music fan himself?

I didn't care 4 TC Ellis at all. His flow was totally weak. Tony's was bad, but wasn't so bad that it was unbearable. One listen 2 TC's cd will let u know just how bad he really was. At least we didn't get an entire cd of TC! We almost got an entire cd of Tony (Gold Nigga) which has its moments, but is still overall a decent cd. It's no Exodus, but it is ok.
