"She's Crying, -it's backwards" Just got myself the Purple Rain dvd yesterday and watched
it last night. I noticed that the scene where the "backwards" tape of the girl crying is played, and Prince and Apples are about to start kissing, it sounds very much like there's talking on that tape as well. It's just backward speech from that point on and I was wondering if anyone knows what's being said on it? I know about the messages in the album but I've never heard about one in the film. PS: "I wanna see some asses wigglin'" -Morris stole that movie man, he just killed me last night. So smooth. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps | |

I have no idea. 
But my guess would be that it IS actually what Apollonia thought it was - backwards moaning from some porn tape or something. It sounds a bit like the moaning in Marilyn Manson's F*** Frankie segue on Smells Like Children. I've recorded this, reversed it and it's pretty interesting. You hear Jill Jones in the background... there's an arguments and you distinctly hear her say, "No, I don't want to do it anymore..." Then you hear a door close and then she begins to cry.
It's strange, yet remember, that in the movie Jill gives Appolonia the ugly look when Appolonia fills out that card in First Ave. Also, there are hints that the Kid and Jill were once an item. A reading of the original script (way better than the scaled down version of the script the final edit was made from) also hints at this relationship. There's much more to the movie than the edit. Consider the original script vs. the final script equivalent to comparing the original Computer Blue to the final movie edit. It does not compare and lacks a lot of substance. Prince is an asshole in this movie, and we get little glimpse of that. Find the original script on the web, read it, and you'll see what I mean. He's just like his father. Anyhow, yeah, it is Jill Jones crying backwards, probably after the kid hurt her physically and emotionally. Walking alone in the dark, I see nothing u see

PRINCE - Please don't drink that. Give it to me. She holds the flask to her lips defiantly, then goes to drink. He lashes out suddenly, SMASHES it from her grip. She SCREAMS wildly, SLAPS him hard across the face. He stands shocked a moment, his rage surging within him, smashing through every safety valve he's acquired in his life. He BACKHANDS her savagely across the jaw. She hits the ground like a rag doll. He looks at her curiously, bends over her - - she sucker-punches him with everything she's got! He SCREAMS in rage and grabs her hands as they flail about his face. He squeezes her fingers back while the tears stream down her cheeks and her mouth forms a silent "ow"! She bares her teeth angrily and he sucks at her mouth, biting and kissing her in a fever pitch. She kicks at him violently, hot tears streaming down her cheeks. He jams his leg between hers, rubs it firmly against her bottom. She struggles helplessly against him as he covers her breasts, her stomach, her thighs with his lips. Quick breaths escape from her -- her breathing begins to race... He snaps her panties in two, pulls them from between her legs. She spreads herself as he releases his pants. She squeezes his buttocks, pulls him toward her -- but Prince resists her coldly, regards her with contempt. Suddenly he flips her onto her stomach, forces her to stand painfully on her knees. He rubs his hand between her buttocks, then thrusts into her painfully, driving himself to the very depths of her... ...but she stifles a cry, arches her back, and meets his thrusts fiercely, moving quicker and quicker, banging her buttocks against his thighs again and again. Definitely would have taken "8 Mile" to the extreme. the original version of the script was quite different and much, much darker. Although, it did give some insight to the character more. Like I said before, the Kid is actually an asshole, a womanizer at his worst, and a woman beater. He's all roses in the final cut of the movie. BTW, check the trailer onthe DVD, it has extra scenes cut out of the movie just prior to its thatrical release. Walking alone in the dark, I see nothing u see

Great topic...did anyone notice that in the "Let's Go Crazy" video, theres a seen where Prince is fighting with what looks like Morris Day's band where they rehearse, but in the movie the whole seen was deleted. I was hoping that someday a dvd version of PR would show those deleted scenes. Don't know if this was covered already if so I apologize. What am I supposed 2 do when the President can't get nothin' passed? | |
