I would be very content if Prince never did another pop song. You?

Depends what u mean by pop, if u mean pop as in Diamonds and Pearls, then yes. But if u mean pop as in POPULAR, then no, because his popular music imho is his funk, and that's my fav stuff - i don't want him 2 abandon the style of erotic city or housequake (tho he may well have)...ever, he still has elements of funk in him which I like (1+1+1=3), but if he were to totally abandon all funk and go to jazz, then no. I would not be content.

And the Kid's contradicted himself cause the actual lyric is "It's time 4 a new direction, it's time 4 jazz to die"

Well, considering he said that in the 80s, and considering what he's doing now...

True, but as mentioned b4 pop(ular) music will never die.

After all, like it or not Prince DID make pop(ular) music and he enjoyed making it despite what he may 'preach' now.

Hmmm, I'm not entirely sure that Prince has ever made music that isn't pop music.

He is a pop music artist.

One "pop" CD every 2 years.
Two "experimental" CDs every year.
One funk CD every year.
One rock CD every year.

This would be satiable.

I'd like to see a nice blend of styles. NOT like what he has been doing ie Emancipation etc. A nice blend of styles that don't feel like they were slapped together. Something that fits together as an entire album, but still has variations of musical styles a la SOTT or 1999. I'm not asking for much am I??

Prince is still a Pop artist. Some of you just want to feel better about the fact that he is never going to be popular again. Pop music is fun and has its place just as Prince music has its place. Unfortunately, recently that place has been in the garbage bin. I just hope Prince makes another great pop record like prince or Purple Rain.

I'm convinced his 'pop' songwriting days are over, infact his ability to write has declined drastically over the last few years, to the point of a glut of instrumentals.Could be he read the reactions to TRC's Religious content and has backed off to have a rethink as he was going to treat us to religious sermons on his albums from that day on.
