How would u configure Emancipation as 1 CD?

I've often thaught about asking this, since I've read lots of threads about fans who put together their own versions of Prince albums (There was a thread about ATWIAD as a double album which included the B-Sides and 7" versions of the singles...gotta find it and read it again!).

How would you trim down Emanicipation to fit a standard album format? (By standard, I'm thinking anywhere from 10-15 tracks; tell me if this estimate is off.) What songs would you keep/throw out? And, assuming the album's title would be the title of the best song out of your particular 10-15 tracks, tell me the title.

I won't list my top 10-15 tracks just yet, as it's late and I don't have the engery to look through my CDs, find Emancipation, and think about which tracks I'd keep or lose. But I can tell you my one-disc album would be called

What are some of your tracklists?

GREAT choices, comeon!

I think that after I get a certain number of responses I will pick a winner, burn the winning tracklist onto a CD-R, then sell my Emanicapation 3-CD set on E-Bay or somethin.' Anyone else like that idea?

I always thought that it should've been 2 separate albums.

One as the proper follow up to The Gold Experience and one as a wedding album for Mayte.

Here's how I would've done it.

Emancipation:

1. Jam Of The Year
2. Right Back Here In My Arms
3. Feel Good
4. Somebody's Somebody
5. White Mansion
6. In This Bed I Scream
7. Sex In The Summer
8. Emale
9. Joint 2 Joint
10. Slave
11. New World
12. The Human Body
13. Face Down
14. Style
15. Sleep Around
16. My Computer
17. Slave 2 The System
18. Emancipation

The Holy River:

1. Betcha By Golly Wow!
2. La, La, La Means I Love You
3. One Kiss At A Time
4. Soul Sanctuary
5. Curious Child
6. Dreaming About You
7. Saviour
8. Let's Have A Baby
9. Friend, Mother, Sister, Mother/Wife
10. Journey 2 The Center Of Your Heart
11. The Holy River
12. One Of Us
13. The Love We Make
14. 20/20

Definitly a challenge: I'm not sure I can even name 10 from that album. Hmmm, there's the one about captain crunch, the Revolution-sounding screaming bed one, some nice ballads, some terrible covers and that's about it. Maybe an EP?

It would only be an 8 song album but I would put the coolest packaging on that damn thing, and I would promote it as having no filler (and this time I wouldnt LIE!).

Okay... I used scientific methods to compile this tracklisting.

Since Sign O' The Times is viewed by many critics and fans as his finest, I thought I'd take comparable songs from Emancipation and see how it played out. The resulting configuration was quite good.

I call it... Emancipation! LOL

Disc One

Emancipation Okay... Sign O' The Times starts with its title track - so mine does too. Both songs are rather sparsely arranged too, although admittedly "Emancipation" is joyous whereas "Sign O' The Times" is downbeat, both have an electronic feel.
Get Yo' Groove On Summery vibe like "Play In The Sunshine". Groovy in comparison to the opening track, so it jarrs the listener like the first two tracks of the Sign O' The Times album.
Face Down Heavy sampled drums start the song and there's a lot of chanting like in "Housequake"...
Somebody's Somebody "The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker" is one of his ultimate late-night jams. Both have a narrative feel. Both songs are about wanting to be with somebody for a night, rather than wanting a full-blown relationship.
The Human Body In my mind, "It" is just beat-heavy filler. Vaguely rude lyrics and an absence of a strong melody make "The Human Body" "It"s distant cousin...
My Computer "Starfish & Coffee" had a sing-song cute melody in the same way that "My Computer" does. Light relief after the previous track.
Let's Have A Baby A slow croon although not as traditionally arranged as "Slow Love". Incredibly romantic song - Well, if you're heterosexual, I suppose.
Sex In The Summer Prince on the prowl, although not looking for one specific girl, like he was on "Hot Thing". There is no real equivalent to "Hot Thing" on the Emancipation album.
Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife Prince declares his undying love in a more specific manner than "Forever In My Life" although the sentiment is the same.

Disc Two.

Sleep Around Disc two of the Sign O' The Times album opened with its most commercial track - so my Emancipation album does too! "Sleep Around", is of course, a better song than "U Got The Look".
Dreamin' About U Swirling keyboards permeate this track in the same way as the drone of "If I Was Your Girlfriend". Lots of spoken bits too. It has that sort of wide-awake at three a.m. feel too.
In This Bed Eye Scream Wendy & Lisa's influence looms large on "Strange Relationship", so it only seems fitting that this track should be placed here. Both are relatively straightforward pop songs too.
Damned If Eye Do Rock guitar and splashing cymbals. Just like "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man", Prince does FM Stadium Rock again.
The Love We Make The religious song... Again, this is a better song than "The Cross" ever was.
Jam Of The Year Okay, so in comparison to "It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night", its a little lame. Both tracks have crowd noises and discuss how great the night's going to be. Erm - that's about it!
Soul Sanctuary Save the best ballad for last, just like "Adore" on Sign O' The Times.

It really does flow well. Its just four minutes longer than Sign O' The Times too!
