Insatiable--his last slow song he freaked

No it was not Shhh..and it was not Eye Hate U..

it was Insatiable..th e othe r ones after this last great freak were Prince doing Prince so to speak..h e then "knew" h e had to do Shhh and others a certain way

Insatiable is full of authenticity...it was right before he got to that point where he became overly conscious of freakin a slow jam

Insatiable drool

love it..slow and it seems to take its time...I damn near throw my boxers at the speakers my damn self

The sad thing about "Shhh" is I think Tevin did it better. The same goes for "Nothing Compares" although "Shhh" didn't have alot of commercial success it got alot of late night R&B radio airplay. Prince felt he had to out do Tevins version, Just like he felt he had to out do Sinead. Prince needs to realize that sometimes less is more. I'm sure if he recorded "Shhh" himself FIRST it would have been just as kick ass as "Insatiable".

LOL well we all KNOW Tevin didn't "sing" it better, but musically I like his version better. I like the simplicity of his version. When prince did it the drums were all loud and the keyboards were overpowering. It was far from quiet storm or quiet anything. And Tevin don't have the cooties no more he took dem braids out.

i think it had to be, in order to transcend the silly immaturity of the song. Tevin's version is ho-hum to me, because the song is kind of lacking on many different levels, and the production does nothing to make it more interesting than it is: it's just standard 1993 r&b radio fluff.

Prince's version makes it worth listening to, sort of the same way that the Family's version of Nothing Compares 2 U totally leaves me cold, while Prince's version (and even Sinead's version) really moves me.

nod

I like Prince's version of "Shhh" but for some reason,I think the Tevin Campbell version is superior. The same goes for "Nothing Compares 2 U".I like Sinead's version bettter.Even though these are his compositions,I think some of his songs were just meant for others to sing.

How did Nothing Compares to You get on this thread? The implied definition of slow jam is to set the mood. Tevin's crappy version of Shhh! is more of a slow jam than Prince's version. However, Prince's version is great because of the musicality of it-- just don't put it on your slow jam tape/cd. lol

As for the topic I have to agree that Insatiable is the last slow jam he "freaked". In fact, I've got to think hard to see if anybody has done a worthy one since. hmmm
Anyway, the only Prince songs I can think of in this league are Do Me Baby, Scandalous, and... I'm thinking... ...still thinking ...
Well, I'll be damned. That's it. Adore, Beautiful Ones, I Hate U, etc. don't count because they aren't in that same vein. Slow Jams are for when you're staring in a woman's eyes and it's time.

I Hate U is a lover-scorned song, not a let's-get-freaky song.

Even the "put a sheet around your ass and pump your hips like you use to" part is not said in the spirit of freakiness.

I like "I Hate U" more than "Insatiable", but the two songs reflect two totally different emotions.
