Love, like a rose in bloom
All of the Rainbow Children will feel it soon 2 the east, word traveled about this energy Until it reached the Banished Ones Who just wanted this love 2 cease They now fallen in2 The Resistor's dream And they built a Digital Garden Or so it seemed In this brilliant darkness So-called angels of light "Lies, lies, lies, lies, lies" And all the Rainbow Children Will stand and fight 4 everlasting, everlasting life 4 the one who sits on the right 4 Him we're willing to do the work The Banished Ones approaching the palace shouted obscenities. They tried 2 confuse the Rainbow Children and dethron their king. Using the lies promoted by the whosepapers, hellavisions, and scagazines- The Banished Ones constructed a Digital Garden around the palace that extended throughout the world. Furthermore they demanded compensation 4 their time spent in the palace b4 the exile. This was noise! "So be it," said the Wise One, and gladly obliged with an INVISIBLE DEED. The Banished Ones accepted and returned to their place of birth in MendaCity. As 4 the Rainbow Children, they began deconstructing the Digital Garden. Door to door they went in search of those willing to do The Work From: http://www.princelyrics.c...italgarden I don't really want to go into what I think TRC is about since one just get's labelled as a fruit-loop or conspiracy theoriest, but Digital Garden, The Work pt.1 and also The War are right on the button - Prince has been doing some reading these past few years, I think it's the same stuff I've been reading. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Damn what others think, first of all. Speak your peace. Replace certain players in this little story with possible real life entities and you get an, um "interesting" interpretation: Digital Garden - rumors spread on the net The Wise one/king - Prince Rainbow Children - JWs, NPG (the jury's still out on this one) MendaCity - artist's major labels Banished Ones - former Paisley Park artists INVISIBLE DEED - compensation for work performed while artists on NPG's label, whether monetary or full ownership of their work Palace - Paisley Park I am MrVictor....

What's there to get? The whole album just narrates one
long made up story that is parts biblical, part myth & 3 quarters Prince weirdness. And still it's an incredible trip of an album, awsome. The Digital Garden seems to be the manifestation of the root of all evil, modern technology and materialism, in it's own way a diversion from the holy and a direct way that leads away from God and toward a path of selfish, egotistical wrongdoing [according to TRC's narrator]. The deconstruction of the Digital Garden and all of it's illusions and smokescreens will allow mankind to realise that there is more to life than instant satisfaction and indeed a whole nother spiritual side to life that has been swept under the carpet. Something like that. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I don't have time now, but I'll bookmark the thread and come back to it.
Prince seems to have been on this track since Gold, but since The War he's been putting it into the lyrics. He's a clever guy obviously, and very poet, which can makes TRC sound, lyrically, more religious than it need be. Whether that's because Prince truly believes in the religious aspect of it, or he is just using that language I dunno. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
