Under the Cherry Moon is the Best Prince Movie Acting-wise (Prince does something more than pout his way through the movie), Script-wise (well, apart from that ending) and Direction-wise (Prince did a pretty good job! The style of the whole thing is leagues beyond Purple Rain) and not to mention the fact that it is almost consistently funny the whole way through, Under the Cherry Moon is Prince's best movie. Obviously better than Graffiti Bridge and just that little bit better than Purple Rain.
Sure, the ending was pretty silly, but the whole shebang is supposed to be SILLY. It's Prince at his tongue-in-cheek hilarious and stylish best. And, not to mention, the music is some of the best of his career. Now who agrees with me? P.S. Sign o the Times and other "live" movies don't count. . you think Purple Rain is better? I'm talking about the scripted movies, not the concerts.

I think Purple Rain has a better script than UTCM. I do like it and enjoy watching it but for me it's a little style over content.

Pfffttt.
When you can see the boom mic in a frame it's not a good directing job. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

oops [This message was edited Tue Dec 9 17:49:45 PST 2003 by Lleena] UTCM has some great one liners though. I was watching it with a non-Prince fan the other day and she was laughing out loud at some of the lines and faces Prince pulled. Plus, I think Chris Tracy is a great character...you end up really caring about him and it sucks when he dies. It's a pity that the rest of the characters don't seem to care so much when he's gone, as the movie ends soon after. The script may not be quite as involved as Purple Rain, but UTCM is Prince's best non-concert PERFORMANCE on film, in my opinion. . However, I found the Character Prince plays a bit one dimensional I am not sure if I liked the character or because it was Prince ( Who I think was playing himself for much of it.) The death scene was sad but very melodramatic, a bit Charlie Chaplinesque.

overall, IMHO, PR is the best.
Though I do like UTCM a little better. Had it not been for the ending, Prince directing it, and kristin-scott thomas (girl gets on my last nerve), UTCM would have the edge. ~KiKi

As far as non-concert flicks go, UTCM had potential. If it had only stayed campy then maybe. Instead it took itself too seriously near the end and just ended up being a mess.
