PRINCES' KID.........

Well we have all seen it...kids of singing stars trying to do their own thing and we have witnessed the horror or potential there of.

I thought about this last night and many times before, like if P had a kid and of course having that creative blood and of course Paisley Park with all of it's state of the art equipment and all of P's instruments.

What do ya'll think would be the outcome...another musical icon or another kid of a superstar just following in their fathers footsteps and success and badly falling on their face?

I always imagined P having a dauther and watching her rip up a blistering guitar solo, jumping of her piano and such.
It sounds exciting to me, what is every one's thoughts?

Just a thought to share.

i think prince would be a great father i read once tht he had a climbng frame or sumting made for he's child, in front of a window, so prince could watch he child while he works, which i think is lovely!!

but if he ever has a child again, i think he/she will grow up in the music industry but not singing,i think writing music or producing, and have he/she's own record lable...

Awww

Please don't talk about that stuff. Prince has lost a child. He probably wouldn't like to read the speculation about this subject. cry

If he even reads this site, but...you never know.

I was actually thinking about this last night...

In my own experience (as a multi-instrument musician, AND the child of a musician) I think MOST kids of a talented musician will end up nowhere near as talented as the father. (Hank Jr. is the only contradiction to that statement that I can think of).

Why?

Well. Look at my son for a good example.

I've been giving him guitars since he was 8. Been offering to teach him, and at one point, he went to a lot of my gigs, acting as a roadie, and I'd bring him up to sing with me (he was 13 or 14 at the time).

So, with all that, you would THINK he'd be all about learning the guitar, or bass, or drums (I've given him one of each - they were all mine first, so, no, I ain't rich, throwing stuff at him), BUT, because he's got all this stuff at his fingertips, the use of my studio, drums, drum machines, guitars, basses, etc, I think he's just NOT that interested in it.

BUT, if I'd been like MY dad, and NOT given him anything, then he'd have been more interested in it. (he's only 16 now).

It's an availability thing. Look at Prince. He was in a broken home, spent lots of time over at Andre's house, and it was there that he started playing stuff, right? His dad was a big musician, but Prince didn't get his MAIN musicianship from his dad.

I think if Prince's baby had grown up, if he lived with Prince, there's a greater likelihood that he wouldn't have been too interested in the stuff - woulda taken it for granted. I spose.

Of course, all that said, and now I'm thinking about Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin drummer's son). He's a badass drummer... and his dad used to play drums with him, so, shoot, who knows.

For me, I've decided that if I just have the stuff available and wait for him to come to me... it'd be more successful in grooming a talented artist -- he'll WANT it.

fantastic points otan and well put.
it was just a thought of mine.
Thanks.

I have no musical influence in my family and when I joined my school band I tore up several instruments because I love music, who knows if i would have stuck with it.

and yes you have agood point about your kids also.

I can picture Prince with a little boy(not a girl for some reason). Oh yeah the kid would be musically talented but in a differnt genre.. A classical pianist!

I think a lot of kids want to go another direction than their fathers.

My only fear is that my son will want to take up sports, which I would have no idea where to begin!

I do know that no matter what direction he chooses in life, I would like to encourage him to just do his best.

I am a photographer, videographer, video editor, play drums, draw and paint, graphic artist, and I do a lot of web work. If he likes something in the world of arts, we'll have a great time! But I'm also keeping in mind, he may not want to be like dad. I sure didn't!
