Could "Pope" be the GREATEST Prince song ever???!!!!! It is unbelievably inventive and yea, even urgent in it's profound message!!!

If Prince would have released "Pope" as a killer "street" single back in 1993 in conjunction with his "The Hits" CDs IT WOULD HAVE SEVERELY knocked Color Me Badd our of the freakin' water!!!
He could have had promotional product tie-in's with the Catholic church to get the hard to reach "pontiff" market segment. A video where Prince would wear a priestly white colar where he would be "tempted" by stocking-clad hotties dressed as saintly altar-girls. THINK OF IT!!! The clubs would have been THUMPIN' to this increbible track!!! He could even release it now and I do believe that Pharrell and OutKast would be hard pressed to come up with something as funky. Pope is a very catchy track, it's perfectly written arranged, produced and performed, but i wouldn't say it is one of his best... there isn't enough emotion in it. | |
