Heard the Ry Cooder album. It should win.

i liked news...not as much as xpectation or cnote, but i still liked it.

that said, it still doesn't explain how an awards ceremony that 50 cent is nomintated in has any relevance as to whether the music is good or not.

I'm sorry, but a Grammy nomination doesn't make those of us who dislike N.E.W.S., anymore than the Grammy that Jethro Tull won for best metal album in 1989 validates their effort. The Tull sucked in 1989, just as N.E.W.S. sucks today.

uh, this would be much more impressive if it weren't in a category so scarce of material, you can pretty much be guaranteed a nomination if you bother to do an album that fits in the genre.

This is yet another masterpiece that takes a little while to grow on you. If you like Jazz music U'll apreciate it, and if you U don't like Jazz, U'll still apreciate it especially knowing that it comes from someone who is not known to be a prolific Jazz musician.

This album was played over the PA system during the recent Oz tour and generated a lot of interest from the croud,

Look at all the music that get's nominated for Grammys. Do any of you really think it's all great music? Most of it sucks. N.E.W.S. sucks!

So Prince's elevator music is nominated, big deal. They'll probably give out those awards during the commercial breaks anyway.

Even though I like the album, I agree with you. If anything I find this nomination insulting. I think he has released some pretty damn good albums for the last 10 years, and none of them get nominated, so why now all of a sudden.

U know I"m just giving Prince Props, I like NEWS I thought it was a compliment & Companion 2 Xpectation. When I first heard NEWS , I thought it was beautiful, It was like hearing Miles Davis play from dead. Even if NEWS does suck to most of you people, you gotta admit 2 urselves, it's a hell of alot better then most of the grammy nominations this year... So I'm glad Prince got nominated after all the heat he got from fans this year.

we all know that the grammys are no arbiter of quality or taste. grammy nod or not, N.E.W.S. is a brave, beautiful, scary piece of work. and as happy as i am about prince getting some propers, i'm even more proud of him for putting it out in the first place.

I'm always glad when Prince's music gets noticed, but the grammys don't mean much.

Remember when the Gap Band got a nomination for a track off of Gap Band V? Even Sting laughed when he was nominated for the "jazz" instrumental "Dream of the Blue Turtles." The Grammys don't mean much, but they do help sell records.

firstly, not regarding the quality of NEWS, but a Grammy means what? awards are pretty worthless, seeing as how POP stars can win them, yeah even the dear old Grammys.

secondly, what about every OTHER ALBUM he released since 88 (his last nomination, i believe)? takes you 15 years to gloat about a grammy nomination?!

that's pretty sad.

he has made some great music int he past few years, NEWS not excluded, but what i think deserves the "last laugh" is how you've clung to this notion that this award is vindication of greatness.

what about the nay sayers for TRC, NPS, the Vault? where's your grammy then?

and don't go saying "well there will always be naysayers, c'est la vie" cuz the whole point of this post was to stick it to them. but it was a weak attempt to begin with.


oh and he hasnt won anything yet, btw. he's nominated against kenny g, so it can get pretty close.


and why do you have the last laugh? what was your contribution to NEWS? sticking up for it? Wow, you should be so proud of your artistic contribution and helping get it nominated.

i think you deserve the grammy the most. so we can all see how worthless it really is
