Yes, I'm serious... I think people are starting to forget how bloody amazing Purple Rain really was. The album, the movie, the song, everything. Show your love for this masterpiece of the 1980's. worship

Well, I agree that the album is one of the best ever, and I love the song, but the movie, though I enjoy it for the performances, is corny and just bad.

The movie was NOT corny when it was actually NEW. I seen it opening day and it was funny and worked perfectly on all levels. I watched a couple years ago with my nieces and nephews and I was still laughing and enjoying it and it was TOTALLY lost on them. So maybe it's corny to you because you were actually BORN the same year as it's release. nod

I agree. The Purple Rain album does kick some serious ass...song after song. It may be his best album or at least is up there in the top 3 for sure. I forget how great it sometimes, but then when I listen to it, it kicks my butt all over again.

A lot of the dialogue (and the delivery of it by some of its "actors") in the movie is corny as all get, no doubt about that. Downright cringe-worthy. Fortunately, I believe the album kept the movie from being a flop. A lesser album might not have kept it afloat.

This is not to say the movie doesn't have any redeeming qualities. I enjoyed it when it was released, but wasn't blind or deaf to certain weaknesses about it. And I still own the movie, but haven't watched it in ages.
