The black album is not his best album, but it is the funnest for me. plus the bass lin in Le Grind defines me as a person. I'm high right now by the way | |

I like 'The Black Album' but I've never been overwhelmed by it.I think it's really overrated. And yes,'Lovesexy' is a better album in every way.
The funny thing is,I appreciated the Black Album more when it was a bootleg. After Warners officially released it in 1994,I pretty much stopped caring about it.Is that strange or what? | |

I think TBA is far better than LS, but as many has said before taste varies. I think LS is too mainstream, while TBA is sooo funky. I have it like DavidEye, When I feel like listening to it I pull out my old RED vinyl bootleg instead of the official WB CD. I'll have another glass of you.
this time on the rocks. | |

All the three years i have been here at the org, Every post that i have read having to do with the black album gave it high praises. Sorry peeps, I have to say it... The Lovesexy Album is way better than the black album...I know that the album had When 2 are in love on it but even on the lovesexy album that wasn't one of my favorites. My favorites from the lovesexy album were:
Lovesexy Dance on I wish u heaven Alphabet street positivity No
and uh, That's really it
--- [i] I felt the same way when I first heard the Black Album all of the way through for the first time. I wasn't impressed, but the more I have listened 2 it over the years, it has its high points, but it's not as bad in retrospect. I really love Le Grind, Cindy C. (probably my favorite track on the album), Rockhard in a funky place, and Bob George. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

U had to hear it back when it was first created/cancelled...It was def. funky and held next to the Love Sexy album as an artist batteling his own internal demons showed the artistic genius that Prince was...15 years later down the road where Rap is now mainstream Cindy C. is a mom and Prince no longer makes public his internal struggles of religion/lust if he still haves them, it doesn't have the "freshness" that it did back in '88...I personaly prefer Lovesexy but The Black Album def. has a place in the chapters that make up Prince's life...
My friend you are damn right! | |

Ahem, how can you "study" something and find it funky, Studying uses the brain, funky shakes ya ass | |

One of my favourite albums, and I didn't hear it when it first came out (I got the bootleg in 1992), I don't think you needed to be there to "get" the album, or any album - although of course experiencing the buzz around an album first time round, especially an unreleased one, is gonna add to it all.
I like NPS, but a lot of that is to do with 1998, not the album itself. Same thing really. Back to the Black album, dunno how any fan can't like it really - maybe the track order cuts the flow, you have Le Grind and Cindy C - two great funk/house stompers, then Dead On It (which I like now, but for years hated it), and then When 2 R In Love - it's like a premature ejaculation. Then after the rest sensuality of W2RIL, we get the real fucked-up nastiness funk on side 2 of the album - all of which is some of Prince's finest work. Badda-bing, badda boom - Great record. I like that era any way, Camille, Madhouse etc. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm a sucker for a major chord | |

I have to agree, its not great album. I only enjoy "Rock hard in a funky place". I guess that why it was shelfed, Sadly Prince replaced it with "Lovesexy" which is great either. | |

The tone of the Black album is set with the INTRO.Listen for the intro and the album will have a new meaning.
Memories:Christmas 1987.Senior year of high school,Macking on all the ladies.Waiting for the Black album to be released. Soon, life would never be the same. | |

I KNOW the intro, as do most (many) others. It offers NOTHING new, only that Prince was up for a bit of pseudo-anonymous fun on this record. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Black Album is one of the highlights of Prince's career.
It's really FUNKY ... most people are not into FUNK, but it surprises me that a lot of orgers are not into the FUNK. Lovesxy seems like the beginning of the Johovah-shit ... It's a nice album, but surely not my favourite | |
