mad Damn, Vina, you beat me to creating this thread. I just found out on VH1.com that Prince was nominated. I don't know if he'll win, especially since many thought the album sucked. If he does, though, then that'll be great anyway. It'll add the the "Prince-mania" of 2004 and maybe put him back in the spotlight.

Tha same thing happened with Steely Dan, so it could happen with Prince too. Think about it.

Paying attention to who was in the news, ie., who was being talked about in the mainstream. Prince was not among the zeitgeist til his HOF nomination.

Wow. This is great.

Kenny and Jimbo? Easy pickings. But George Winston and Ry Cooder are actually pretty good. Should be an interesting race.

If this is a true story, here is proof of the strength of Prince's new work to those that listen to something other than the top 40. NEWS didnt get the respect or attention it deserved and it seems the Academy agrees.

This deserves a Grammy.I wonder if the induction into the hall of Fame will sway organizatioins like this to revisit himas someone that needs to be watched and honored and if he will get more awards and other accolades.

HELL hath officially frozen over.

If not for his Hall Of Fame nomination and soon to be induction I doubt NEWS would even be noticed by the old fogey, usually out of touch, Grammy nominating committee.

Timing is a large part of success, especially in the music business, and Prince's first full decade of album releases should be remastered and reissued in light of all this.

But the man is stubborn (sometimes you have to be). Don't get your hopes up.

nod I don’t even wear or own glasses, but this headline had me cleaning the lenses.

I think you’re absolutely right, Super. This is about the Rock & Roll HOF pushing Prince’s nearly underground status temporarily back into the limelight.

It should also be noted that George Harrison was nominated. George had two things working for him: The Hall of Fame nomination and his own death.

If you’re not mainstream by way of record sales, it has got to come in some other fashion.

But I’m not going to quibble over how things get nominated. Over the years I’ve learned to focus on the rare stuff that I think is great that is being recognized as such, rather than the overwhelming majority of greatness that’s overlooked in favor of merely good commercial stuff that will be forgotten faster than a double chili cheeseburger at Hardee’s.

Respect goes out to Outkast as well, actually giving the commercial music scene something to be proud of.
