Did you ever write to Prince?

I was reading the FAQs / Prince (the person) on this site:

3.1 I want to write/send a demo tape/send a gift to Prince. What's his address?

Contact Prince via Paisley Park. The address is:

Paisley Park Studios
7801 Audubon Road
Chanhassen, MN USA
55317-8201

Did any of you ever did write to him or send him a tape/gift? If so what was it and did you ever get a reply?

Too bad he doesnt give autographs anymore, then I would at least try to get one by writing to him.

When I was 10, 11 or 12 I wrote him at least 2 fan letters. I know he would've responded but I'm sure he couldn't read my hand writing. I know that's why he didn't respond. I just know it is.

I had a bit of correspondence via e-mail during the "bediscream" days - little interesting stoopid things. It was cool, but mostly silly.

I sent him a letter when I was about 13, AWIAD had just came out, about 3 months later I got a post card from paisley park with a picture of him on the front, I think it said something like "peace" or "love". I don't think I've ever felt so empty. sad

Back in the 80s I once wrote a letter to Prince's father and mailed it to PP, and received a rather snippy response letter back from Karen Krattinger. neutral

I would strongly advise against sending him a demo tape. He wont even open it. Look at npgmc.com and see what he does to the demo tapes fans are sending him.

Some people might remember the story from last year`s tour in the US when some chick insisted on giving him her demo during soundcheck... he got really pissed off. And I have to admit, I understand.

When I was 14 years old I wrote the words to "superstar" in a letter to Prince. At the time, Luther Vandross had just recorded the song. I did receive a card in the mail back telling me I was in his fan club. I WISH I still had that card!

Then like the complete nerd that I am I sang "superstar" at the 2002 celebration on the outside stage. DUH!

I used to send him a birthday card every year but now that he is so anti-birthday, I haven't done so in awhile. I also sent him a few "Thank you" cards after he did a tour just to say how much I enjoyed it. I think he probably does read a lot of that stuff at this point because he probably doesn't get tons of mail like he probably did in the Purple Era.

One kind of goofy thing I did once was at his '94 birthday show in Miami, I got this cool "Wizard of Oz" pop-up birthday card for him. I thought I should get him a present, so I wrote him a check for $20. I gave the card to one of his assistants.

Then about a month later, I got the uncashed check back in the mail from Paisley Park with a little typed note that just said "Thanks 4 the card". So I guess he probably did see the card and was nice enough to send the check back rather than just tearing it up. Of course I knew that $20 was nothing to Prince, but it was the thought that counts and I couldn't think of a real present to get him. I wrote this little note in the card about how much I enjoyed his music, etc.

Anyway, I think it is nice to write him a little note or send a card sometimes if you want to communicate your affection or appreciation. I bet sometimes these little things brighten his day just a bit which is certainly a good thing.

BTW, whenever I wrote him, I wouldn't put a return address on the letter in order to show that I didn't expect a reply or anything in return. If your motives are pure and unselfish, then you wouldn't expect some sort of reply when you write him.
