Comeback: Prince's most personal released song?

I really, really love Comeback, my only problem with it is that it is too short - it gets going and then it's over.

I think that it's written about his son and it's a really emotional song, Prince sings his heart out on this song:

Walking up the stairs Thursday afternoon
Sweet wind blew not a moment 2 soon
Ooh, I cried when I realized
That sweet wind was U

Spirits come and spirits go
Some stick around 4 the aftershow
I don't have 2 say I miss U
Cuz I think U already know

If U ever lose someone dear 2 U
Never say the words - "They're gone"
They'll come back, yeah
They'll come back, yeah, yeah
They'll come back

Tears go here {x4}

Which other officialy-released (or even bootlegs) songs do you consider to be very personal to Prince?

I adore Comeback. It's simply elegant...

I Love U, But I Don't Trust You Anymore is pretty heart-breakingly personal. Makes you feel like a Puerto Rican trollop. wink
No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

Sex is not love. Love is not sex. Putting words in other people's mouths will only get you elected.

I dunno, the lyrics are about as deep as a Hallmark card.

I was pretty suprised how Prince kinda skipped over writing much about the death of his child, and only released a song like this to address it.

As a person who has experienced a miscarriage with his wife (who ACTUALLY experienced it, I admit), I can tell you that even this simple song still brings chills.

I've heard other songs about such things, and maybe it's because I prefer purple music before other music, but the opening chords just humble me.

I'm not saying that every person needs to feel this way about this song, I'm just saying that's the way _I_ feel about this song. smile

Just flat out moves me.

Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another

Just like life...

And I agree. Comeback is a beautiful, poignant song.

Though its typical for musicians to use pain as a source of inspiration, its not a RULE. Not everyone wants to address every aspect of their life in song. Some things just don't belong to the public.
Let it go.

I actually felt the pain in this song several times, very moving it was, brought me to tears.

I always felt 'Until U're In My Arms Again' was about the death of his son.

Until U're In My Arms Again
All of my life I've never wanted anyone like I wanted U
Every night I said a prayer 2 God and His angels
I'm sure they knew
The many tears that I'd have 2 cry
If I ever had 2 leave your side

CHORUS:
Until U're in my arms again
I know this pain will never end
This broken heart will never mend
Until U're in my arms again

Every mornin' when I awaken, I imagine U sleepin' in your bed
Wrong or right the reason U're taken from my embrace
Well, it's never said
Cuz every day that U don't return
Is another day that my heart just yearns and yearns
That's why?

CHORUS

If life remains a mystery
Then there's no reason 2 the rhyme
And U, U'll never know what U mean 2 me till U're mine, all mine

Until U're in my arms again {x3}

(CHORUS)
Until U're, until U're, until U're in my arms again!
No, ain't never gonna end
Never gonna mend
Until U're back, right back in my arms again

I'll never see like others see
(I know that U'll come back 2 me)
I know U're gonna come right back 2 me (Come on back 2 me)
And this time U will never leave my arms again
(Never leave my arms again)

Until U're in my arms again {x3}
Come on back, baby
Come on back {x2}

Until U're in my arms again {x2}
"London, i've adopted a name that has no pronounciation.... is that cool with you?"

"YEAH!!!"

"Yeah, well then fuck those other fools!"

You're not alone in thinking that, I thought that when I heard it too.

Yeah well...what post-1989 Prince lyrics DON'T sound like a Hallmark card? All the lovey dovey ones sure do...so why not the "miss you" one as well? I think his voice says it all on this one.

Prince probabbly has some music he recorded in response to the passing of his kid, but never shared it. He's gone deeper with songs about lost women in his life than Comeback was to his kid. I agree with what BlaqueKnight mentions, and I'm wonderin if he released Comeback as something simple and sweet to qualm fans who were wonderin what the deal was.

I'd never thought of that song in that light, you may be right. The line "Come on back, baby" sounds a bit too direct for Prince IMO.

im sure until ure in my arms again is about that 2. It makes sense timing wise. comeback was probably written and recorded in 1996-7 which would have been too early for the baby thing!
