Uptown #59 ALIVE & WELL!
UPTOWN is alive and well, gearing up for the spring 2004 publication of THE VAULT. In the meantime, issue #59 of the magazine hits the stand soon. Issue #59 contains the following four articles: A NEW POWER! - THE NORTH AMERICAN LOVESEXY TOUR REPORT Having covered the European and Japanese legs of the massive Lovesexy tour in previous issues (#55 and #57, respectively), it is time to focus our attention on the North American leg. The tour was a commercial disappointment, as Prince failed to sell out shows in many areas. Still, Prince performed passionately night after night, motivated by his deep religious beliefs about the messages of Lovesexy. The report includes a set list matrix and descriptions of most of the shows. THE ULTIMATE LIVE EXPERIENCE - PRINCE'S LIVE HISTORY Prince's live work is a crucial element of his legacy. Although he sold 16 million copies of Purple Rain and has enjoyed record sales from all his albums of over 100 million copies, his live shows have had the most enduring impact on his fans. Prince's records may not always live up to expectations, but fans and critics agree that Prince nearly always delivers live. This article examines Prince's exciting history as a live performer, in words and figures. STOP THE PRESS! - THE N.E.W.S ALBUM STUDY Prince's latest album is the instrumental N.E.W.S, which was released on 30 June 2003 to NPG Music Club members and on 29 July 2003 to stores. This article examines the contents of the highly ambitious N.E.W.S album. EVERY OTHER PAGE I'M ON - OFFICIAL PRINCE PUBLICATIONS UPTOWN has previously documented Prince tour programmes (issue #51) and books about Prince (issue #58).
