Prince is not Gay, Prince is a metrosexual.. Over the past of being a Prince fan, there have come times were people have argued about Prince sexual orientation. In my mind I never thought Prince was gay, because in his lyrics alone, he made it seem as if he loved sex & women to much. Not to mention the fact, you always saw him accompanied with a beautiful woman such Vanity, Carmen Electra or even Kim Bassigner, however. Just, because Prince wore makeup, dressed in tight clothes and song in a high pitch voice, the first thing people who weren't fans would argue about is the fact "He's gay". I swear I could go into a chat room, mention the name prince and one of the first thing somebody would say is "Prince is gay".
Well guys today I think I'll be the first to say, Prince is not a gay, but he's a metrosexual. Not sure what a metrosexual is ? Check out the definition The typical metrosexual is a young man with money to spend, living in or within easy reach of a metropolis — because that's where all the best shops, clubs, gyms and hairdressers are. He might be officially gay, straight or bisexual, but this is utterly immaterial because he has clearly taken himself as his own love object and pleasure as his sexual preference. Particular professions, such as modeling, waiting tables, media, pop music and, nowadays, sport, seem to attract them but, truth be told, like male vanity products and herpes, they're pretty much everywhere. —Mark Simpson, "Meet the metrosexual," Salon.com, July 22, 2002 When I first of a this metrosexual business, the first that came to mind was Prince. Then I went back to listen to his song the prettyman... The Prettyman pretty much sums up, the very definition of what a metrosexual man would be. Don't believe me ? Well Check out the lyrics yourself... Prettyman Don't hate me cuz I'm beautiful Hey now, what's up? Aw, U know how 2 come over here starin' at a brother so hard Huh, say U what? CHORUS: If U wanna be my baby, got 2 tell me so Over competant lady, better act like U know If U wanna be my baby, come on take my hand Tell me that U wanna get with Prettyman See me up here dancin', dancin' on the flo' Got 2 think about doin' just a little mo' The way I wear my knickers around this booty tight Make a sister wanna call me up every night - hey! CHORUS Everywhere I go, people stop and stare They just wanna see me swing this pretty hair If there ever comes a time when it just won't grow I'll keep it like my brother and buy some mo' - hey! CHORUS (Tell me) (Looka here) (Do ya know) (Take my hand) (Say it!) Ooh, uh If U wanna be my baby, got (Prettyman) Ooh, Prettyman (Prettyman) {repeats} Looka here now In the early morning when I'm feeling nice I walk by the mirror and kiss it twice When it comes 2 perfume, i-it's on the shelf I get it down, if ain't nobody around I, I, I smell myself Hey, uh, Prettyman, looka here I ain't through Say I don't, uh, wait a minute Come on, band, break down I don't care about money, I buy gold by the ounce Y2K, not today, I write a check and the bank bounce "Superball" used 2 be my nickname if U ask about love No money back guarantee when I'm above Pretty man If U wanna be my baby, got 2 tell me so Over competant lady, gotta act like U know If U wanna be my baby, come on take my hand Tell me that U wanna get with the Prettyman, huh Maceo, brother, can U blow? Uh, pretty From Harlem, uh, ay, off 2 Tokyo Wait, stop, ah, go Maceo can ya, Maceo, can U blow? Hey, Prettyman Oh yeah Can I scream now? Hey, hey! Can I scream now? Hey {x6}, ohhh no! Hey, hey, hey! Hello? Who is it? Yes, this is a Prettyman Princey! He he he... Now if these lyrics don't spell out the words Metrosexual, Then I don't know what does... People yes, our very own Prince is a Metrosexual. Strange but true.

Well, he's an extreme metrosexual
...some of his lyrics allude to being with a man...

Perhaps Prince was the very first Metrosexual? Before Dirty Mind, who else was like that? Also he was probably the first man to swear so much/have heavy sexual overtones in his music and get away with it.

Well all I know is, one of the first rules, for women who's interested in dating a metrosexual man is, never date one, because y'all wil be fighting over each other beauty products. Remember on the Oprah interview, she kept saying "you're so pretty"

"you say you want my hips up in the air? Idon't know, I don't care.."
I'm picturing a man on his stomach or his back with his hips in the air. It makes more sense to be on his stomach with hips in the air. I can only think of one reason he would be in this position

The lyrics are not ambiguous at all, but that Camille voice is and that fact that he has an alter ego named Camille...just a thought

Metrosexual is just an annoying categorisation sprung up for marketing purposes. It's an awful sounding word too. Prince is just Prince, describe him as you may but putting on this ridiculous label doesn't achieve much. Metro-f'ing-sexual. Good lawd. Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

There is no reason for a gay man to sleep with so many woman. We the public have never had a man come out in public and say I sleept with Prince. Prince has pissed off so many people in the music industry that someone would have outed him along time ago. As far as MovieStar is concerned I think he was so happy at the time with his success after Purple Rain and being a moviestar that he is just expressing his happiness. He is saying I am going to get out on the floor and dance my ass off with anybody out there. The story behind "If I Was Your Girlfriend" is in DMSR and the song is really about his relationship with Susan Melvoin and his jeolusy of how close she was to Wendy. In the song he is being sacastic in saying that you and I would be close if I was a woman since you(Susan) seem so interested in hanging with your sister all the time. The song really shows how fucked up he is emotionally more so than a gay theme. In short if Prince is gay I really think it would be public knowledge by this time in his carreer. If he his gay it is also his business. I have always belived that he just has emotional and mental health issues which are far more serious than being gay.

The song really shows how fucked up he is emotionally more so than a gay theme. Thank you for saying this. I'm tired of people saying that 'If I was Your Girlfriend' is a "gay" song when it is obviously, among other things, an emotionally needy song.

Only idiots believe "If I Was Your Girlfriend" has gay undertones. Listen to the song. Actually, any song in question can easily be shot down if you truly understand what he's talking about. He's not gay, and never has been.
AND I KNOW THAT KILLS ALL THE GAY FANS OUT THERE, BUT DON'T CRY

It's a term from the mid/early 90s that basically means straight men who appear "gay".
I.e. they think about clothes and facial products. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Little Richard? Gosh, let's see... High heeled boots, skimpy bikini briefs, pouty lips, that come hither look, the falsetto... But, I NEVER thought of Prince as gay! Extremely in touch with his feminine side, but not gay. I can't quite explain it, but that's just how I've always felt.

LOL, Prince is the epitome of a "metrosexual".
Little Richard is just gay. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
