The public still loves Prince!

I'm the closing manager at Applebee's, and I've found out people still really like Prince. 45 minutes before closing time I change from top 40 to Prince. I play anything from Emancipation to ONA live and everything in my collection. I've been doing this for the past few months. Its amazing how many people call me over to their table to ask if this is Prince. Most of the time people are shocked shocked that the music that's playing is Prince.

I've played some real early stuff like For You or Dirty Mind and everyone seems to be in a groove. I even get requests for TRC. The first thing people say is: WOW I didn't even know Prince was still around. Since October I've burned about 25+ cds for customers. So I guess the public still loves Prince.

tsk tsk...

be careful.

As a manager of a franchise you could be violating some major rules set out by the head organization by playing and distributing music not licensed for restaurant use.

I'm just warning is all.

but keep up the good work!

No kidding...

At my wedding (10/4/03), we did our bride-and-groom dance to "Pink Cashmere", with the house lights dimmed and candles everywhere... and I couldn't believe how many people were coming up to me later on, asking "Was that Prince? Was that Prince?"... I mean, people in the bathroom... people leaning in to ask each other DURING the dance... everything.

For that matter, "17 Days", "Housequake", and "Uptown" had the floor pretty nicely packed later on...

Perhaps if people like you didn't burn cd's for 'em they would go to the store and buy an album or two thus making the stores more aware that he is still selling stuff and make sure his presence is still out there in record land!

*BIG KISS*!!!

That is so cool that you are doing that. I think it's great! He needs to be heard since the radio stations are too lame and afraid to play him. Guess the record companies are scared that he gets played more, their sorry "artists" won't stand a chance.

That's because most commercial radio stations play what is popular ie being sold in the record stores and his stuff ain't being sold if people are booting copies all over the place!!

@67:

Not necessarily. Let me tell you, I live in a city that could be called "hood central" ie. there's a bootleg man on every corner in every neighborhood. Everybody is NOT buying bootleg when it comes to artists they really like. One reason is quality. With bootleg, you never know what you're gonna get. When it's something I really want, I buy it straight out, and that's usually because I hear it online or on the radio, on TV, or somebody's playing it.

If some of his new, more commercial oriented stuff were played, and if's readily available for purchase, people would go out and buy it.

In my experience it's a proven fact that most people who
usually only pay attention to what the mainstream feeds them
are shocked that Prince is still releasing music, and
shocked that they actually like the new music he's producing when it's played for them.

In general if they're not serious fans of the man they
don't have a clue about what he's up to.

First off...Prince has made all the presence he's ever gonna make. The man has been around for over twenty years. Everyone knows of him and his purple madness. Second... I am a firm believer in the sharing of music. Its been done over and over for many moons. Even b4 cd's I can remember giving and receiving copy after copy of "dubbed cassettes." Back in the day that what people even gave there demo's on. Who knows? Prince's first demo might have been on one of these cassettes. Last...if someone receives his music by whatever means you deem illegal, they are in a sense being introduced or "made aware". Music today is crap. You buy a cd and get a few hits and the rest is just filler. Don't knock these people because they wanna save a buck or two.

Ummm you mean my wife? Yes she's a fan, but not quite like me. She supports my habit of collecting Prince, but sometimes she freaks when she sees how much money I spend.
