Is "Ronnie, Talk to Russia" a Right-Wing Rant?

Just listened to "RTTR" with my boomin' system while driving back from the sto' and it occured to me that this song is pretty pro-Reagan...

What do ya'll think?

all of Prince's early politically-inflected songs are one of the following:

1) embarrassingly naive
2) embarrassingly idiotic
3) just plain crap songs.

oh wait... nothing's changed.

Certainly naive.

Then in "Annie Christian" he holds the liberal view on gun control and the conservative view on electric chairs. confuse

Actually, I think it's pretty cool to not hold ALL the views of one party or the other. Think for yourself, dammit!

I don't think it was PRO Reagan, so much as "whoever the fuck is in charge, please do something before we all gets blowed up".

That was my take on it.

Yeah,I remember that quote.Apparently,Prince was a supporter of Ronald Reagan. But it's hard to imagine the conservatives approving of Prince back then...lol

A useless comment from AaronUniversal. I see nothing has changed with you either. The song is just Prince saying somebody do something before the whole is blown to pices.

In addtion, he publicly supported the democratic mayor of Minnapolis. Does't sound like he is stuck on on poltical party.

There was a moment about ten years ago when the Minneapolis Star and Tribune had an article about Prince giving something like $15,000 to the campaign of former Republican senator Rudy Boschwitz in his run against incubent senator Paul Wellstone. Paul Wellstone was the most progressive voice in the senate an he was re-elected.

I remember the girl who worked the counter at Oarfolkjokeopus record store on Lyndale getting all uppity when I asked her about Prince records, because of it.

Prince's take on politcs are usually pretty...embarassing.

The song says,

Ronnie, talk 2 Russia before it's 2 late
Before it's 2 late, ‘fore it's 2 late
Ronnie, talk 2 Russia before it's 2 late
Before they blow up the world

(Ronnie, talk 2 Russia)

U can go 2 the zoo, but they can't feed guerillas
Can't feed guerillas, left-wing guerillas
Go 2 the zoo, but don't feed guerillas
Who wanna blow up the world

Oh yes, baby!

Ronnie, if U're dead before I get 2 meet ya
‘Fore I get 2 meet ya, ‘fore I get 2 meet ya
Ronnie, if U're dead before I get 2 meet ya
Don't say I didn't warn ya

Ronnie, talk 2 Russia before it's 2 late
Before it's 2 late, ‘fore it's 2 late
Ronnie, talk 2 Russia before it's 2 late
Before they blow up the world {x2}
(My world, don't ‘cha, dont ‘cha blow up my world)
Don't U blow up my world!

Ow!

It seems like he's saying that a pacifist, everyone get along attitude is dangerous. You can't feed the "guerillas" at the zoo. Jimmy Carter was all about that. Ronnie was tougher.

Nice play on words.

It's a fun throwaway nieve filler which certainly does not possess the courage of its convictions - nor does it try to.
It's meant to be funny, people - on half of his records all he wants to do is make you laugh.

Wait - I took that song seriously as a socio-political statement on the temper of the nation at the time - we all needed a good circle jerk...
