Does Prince get airplay in your city?

I've read at various sites that certain cities almost never play his music anymore. This must vary by city, because where I am, he gets pretty high rotation on certain stations.

We have two Black stations. One caters to the young, rap and hip hop set. The other caters to an older demographic (about 27 and older). The second one I mentioned plays his music all the time, day and late night. The ones I've been hearing are:

I Wanna Be Your Lover
Soft and Wet
Adore (this gets a LOT of airplay)
Sexy Dancer

Some of the other stations that are geared more towards a white audience play his songs, but only the Purple Rain stuff.

There's another station here that plays jazz/adult contemporary, etc. I think they'd be really open to playing his newer stuff, but I haven't been able to find an email addy for the station that works and I don't have their number or know anyone that works there.

Are they playing his music in your city?

No! It's ridiculous, Philly hardly ever plays Prince, except for one station that has club mixes on weekend nights and they play a lot of remixes.

I've never been anywhere where I didn't hear his old music at least.

I've heard one station here play LRC, 1999, Let's Go Crazy, and Raspberry Beret.

One other station plays Kiss occasionally.

The saddest thing is, on the radio I hear Chaka Khan's I feel for You, Sinead's NC2U, and Tom Jones' Kiss more than every Prince song combined.

hmmm... I wonder why I don't listen to the radio?
hmmm... I wonder why I have to illegally download mp3s to listen to new music?
hmmm... I wonder why, as a major music buyer, there aren't outlets that are more tailored to my needs?

Wow, that's interesting. I wonder what the difference is then? They say that one major company now controls a lot of the nation's stations. If that's the case, then you'd think you wouldn't hear him anywhere, or hear him everywhere.

What can we do to change this?

CinisterCee

"1999"
"Little Red Corvette"
"When Doves Cry"

That's the only ones I hear on the radio station here, but the station is geared more toward 80s hits.

The only thing the "urban" station here plays is Justin Timberlake and 50 Cent.

I understand Sarah Cox played "When doves cry" on Radio 1 the other week. Jo Whiley mentioned the fact that she jumped over the sofa to turn it up and I think she mentioned creaming herself when she heard it.

Jo Whiley is a Fan of the great man.

Respect to Radio 1 for this act alone.

Like the late Scott Larock once said, up in Rochester on DKX, the only Prince they play up here is the old stuff but they did play She Loves Me For Me & Mellow from the Rainbow Children last year!

Sorry but there are alot of songs of his I don't like.

If Prince puts out an album, there will be a track played here in NY(yes that does include TRC). And if it is his b-day there will be alot of HIS songs played.
