Now I know this album/song/movie gets bagged out a lot, but I've recently been watching the movie and listening to the soundtrack and it really isn't that bad at all. Of course it could never compare to Purple Rain, but it's not a bad effort at all. We have such excellent songs as The Question of U, Joy In Repetition and Elephants and Flowers - on which Prince performs every instrument and voice himself (!) - and a decent script and storyline. Yeah, the sets are fake, but think of it as a really high-budget school musical rather than a low-budget movie. And what is supposed to be so bad about the title track?

I'll take a piece of that action.

I, for the life of me, cannot understand how ANYBODY would like that thing called a film.

The album, on the other hand, is great.

I don't really consider it a "professional film" so much as a "do-it-yourself feelgood amateur movie thrown 2gether by a bunch of hippies." Keep that ideal in mind &, if that's the sort of thing that appeals 2 U, U may enjoy it as it is.

ANY movie that makes U feel happy & good about yourself automatically beats a heck out of a lot of the competition coming out these days, where we get a lot of pessimistic junk hurled at us. Given the choice between it & a ton of other recent titles, I'll take GB any ol time.

Of the 'time' tracks, 'Release It' is probably the strongest...

I went to se GB ina movie theater with two people not in my immediate entpourgage...I thought form th epreviews that thsi was going to be the bomb dggidy--when GB ended I knew the dream wa sover and things were never going to be the same..not just in Prince world with me but in the real one as well...things had done changed.
