THE WHITE ALBUM

whatever happened 2 the white album ? I remember reading a article in a magazine about Prince (around the gold experience time) and they were talking about Prince was getting ready 2 release the white album. It was supposed to be a alternative 4 The Black Album. I remember being all excited for it and waiting 4 this album to come out, but it never did, do you think it perhaps could've been victimize by the infamous vault ?

Do you remember where this article came from? Anyone else? I'd love to hear evidence of another Gold-era album - one of the high points of following Prince's career.

I can't remember which magazine it from, because it was so long ago, but I do remember they were talking about the white album and it was around the time when Prince had started doing interviews again.

Yeah I know the beatles has a albume called the white album 2,lol but I swear Prince was supposed to have a album called the white album 2. nod

Cool. Funny thing is, Prince in '94-'95 was nastier than Prince around the time of the Black Album. When the Black Album finally came out in 1994, it seemed a little tame. I wonder what the White Album might have sounded like?

I don't know, but I thought it was suppose to be like the black album. You know how the black album was written around 87 , but didn't get released until 93'. From what I can remember from the article, it seemed like it was supposed to be like that, which was the reason why I was all excited about it, but unfornately it was never released.

I swear I'm not making this up lol

When you said 'alternative' to the Black Album, I thought you meant a spiritual, uplifting album to contrast the Black Album - I guess not.

Anyone else know anything about this? Where's Boris?

BTW, Lisa, I believe you - I'm just looking for clarification / further information. I remember at that time (early '95) people misquoted him in interviews all the time because he wouldn't let people bring in pens or tape recorders, so I'd love to read the context in the article and see how much was the interviewer's interpretation.

Was this part of an interview with Prince - or was it an article (either on its own or accompanying an interview) where the writer was simply conveying something which was rumoured?

I just posted an idea at NPGMC that someone from PP could quash all the rumors and speculations about albums by letting us know any information that's available about albums/projects that came and went along the years, triggered by this thread. I'll keep you updated.

Anxiety

If any album of Prince's resembles the Beatles' White Album (conceptually, that is), I think it would be SOTT.

If any Prince album were to be the opposing end of the spectrum to The Black Album, I think it would be Lovesexy.

Never should a title be called "White Album" and be associated with Prince.. ever.

I used to have that issue of Vibe - those were exciting times. I'm going back to the UK tomorrow for Thanksgiving - maybe I still have that there. I'll check, so I can get the full quote.

"Rippopgodazippa" didn't show up on the "Showgirls" soundtrack...

I don't remember Prince (or prince , as he was then) mentioning
a project called "the White Album". Around the time before the
Gold Experience / Come was released he did mention that he
was working on a sprawling epic of an album called "The Dawn".
...and I seem to remember him describing this as "his White
Album". Which I took to mean that he was comparing it with
the Beatles album, in that it would contain an incredibly diverse
range of songs without any particular overiding theme.

So I don't remember him saying that he was going to release
an album called "The White Album" (though you never
know), but I do remember him describing "The Dawn" as being
like "The White Album". (hopefully without his equivalent
of 'Revolution #9' though wink )

I remember that a "White album" was mentioned in a review of Lovesexy in The Record Mirror (UK music weekly long since defunct).

Can't remember now whether the reviewer was referring to Lovesexy as the Black-album antidote or whether they were referring to a supposedly shelved project.

Sorry to only add confusion to the topic...

I love the White Album, but Revolution # 9 is the only Beatles track I skip.

Yup, that's the one, right there. I remember that too.
Very well in fact.

It made me borrow a friend's White Album [I didn't
have a copy of my own yet back then] and listen to it.

I remember thinking "shit, this is gonna rock!".
